"What I wish my third-grade self could see now, is her nearly 46-year-old self wearing shorts out in public, at the lake, at the gym, at school pick up, to the grocery store, wherever she pleases because it is hot out. Where there use to be self consciousness and worry, is now freedom to move my body, let my thighs touch and be comfortable in my own skin in hot weather.
It is crazy to think that in the third grade at age 8 I was told I had thick thighs in gym class, and it stuck. Never mind those legs moved me through handsprings, soccer games, paced me through track meets and pushed my bike pedals like the wind, I hid them a lot. I think the last time I wore shorts I was about 15 and then not again all the way through my adulthood until I was middle aged.
It was July 2018; I had just turned 41 and it was so very hot out. I was tired of wearing my long leggings to the gym in the summer. I had always just resigned to the fact that I would be extra hot all covered up. Until the day I decided I would have, as I called it, Zero F**ks about those nagging self doubts or what I presumed other people would think, and I put shorts on and went to work out. Out in public with my thighs touching and showing in all their glory! And you know what? I did not die of embarrassment, nobody even looked at me with a second glance and I was much more comfortable in the heat.
It was the relief of after decades of worry and self consciousness I just let it all go. I came to be thankful for my body, the fact that it moves me through life. I posted my little self victory on Instagram because I was so darn happy with myself and quickly found out I was not alone in my body shaming, the sadness in how it changed my behaviour, and some even said they were going to dig out their shorts after reading it.
So, I now post a yearly reminder to โput on the Damn Shorts!โ because it may help someone else feel comfortable to love themselves more, because it is hot AF out there and we all have better things to focus on than our thighs-like living life and getting better.

Hello everyone!
Liz here, long time member, first time coach! I may be a familiar face to many of you, as I have been a member at Fukumoto for 7ish years.
Over my years at Fukumoto, I have really enjoyed working out in such a supportive community where everyone is welcome, so much so that now I am getting even more involved and becoming a coach!
I have always been active and I've tried many different sports over the years, soccer, tennis, swimming, basketball, and I was even a group fitness instructor for a couple of years while I was in university. The sport that has stuck the longest is running. I have done a number of road races and in the last couple of years I have gotten into trail running, which is a blast, plus trail races have the best snacks. I only got into strength training when I started at Fukumoto and my only regret is not starting sooner.
When not at the gym, you might find me downtown at my other job, I work in employment services, helping Winnipegers to find work. Or you might find me out and about with my dog. She loves to run and swim and we go bikejoring and skijoring depending on the season.
I am very excited to start coaching at the gym and to see what we can do together.

Often people discredit workouts....they say (or have you ever said):
"That wasn't intense enough..."
"I used to do more last year...or when I was younger"
"I was just out of it today..."
How is it realistic for each workout to be better than the last?
How is it healthy to expect a PB/PR ongoing?
๐In every 10 workouts, even when you're in a groove its probably more realistic to feel:
1 was awesome
8 were decent/average
1 was brutal
The point is that you will ๐ช๐๐ก showing up and just doing the best you can.
This is 'fitness maturity' and is can come when you are ๐๐ข๐ก๐ฆ๐๐ฆ๐ง๐๐ก๐ง.
If you miss a day, ๐ฏ๐ฐ ๐ฃ๐ช๐จ ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ.
If a month or two in the year isn't ideal, ๐ฏ๐ฐ ๐ฃ๐ช๐จ ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ.
If a year or two in 10 aren't so hot, ๐ฏ๐ฐ ๐ฃ๐ช๐จ ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ.
You can't control the micro as much as you think but you can often ๐ฆ๐๐ข๐ช ๐จ๐ฃ.
We celebrate a lot at Fukumoto Fitness but consistency is celebrated every week, every day, and many sessions during a day.
1st session, 50, 100, 500, 1000, and everything in between and above our community is hitting milestones of ๐ฆ๐๐ข๐ช๐๐ก๐ ๐จ๐ฃ and not quitting!
This is way more effective and about longevity than 1 hardcore month or even 6 months of your life ... this is a sustainable healthy lifestyle going in the right direction! ๐ง๐ข๐๐๐ง๐๐๐ฅ!

"My name is Camille Enns, but I usually go by Coach Cam! I am super pumped to be joining the Fukumoto team and starting this journey alongside you, while coaching you to your goals!
Everyone knows me as the โHockey Playerโ, I played for the Eastman Selects U18AAA for 4 years, the University of Manitoba for 5 years, and continue to play in Indigenous hockey tournaments as many times as I can! I continue my love for hockey by coaching and doing dry-land for the Manitoba Mavericks Hockey Club full time during winter.
I am French and Mรฉtis, and pride myself on my culture. As you mightโve guessed absolutely anything to do with hockey I am there however, I spend most of my day cooking, reading, playing boards games or doing absolutely anything physical!
I love fun facts and ending sessions with people smiling, feeling better about themselves, and getting to know everyone better. I also have a quick-witted and punny sense of humour.
I love everything I have learned so far at Fukumoto, and canโt wait to stay with you all for a long time!
