We hosted the first 8v8 Flag Football Friendship Games hosting Toronto

This was a great opportunity for both team to compete for the first time and apply everything learned for the last year, we can't wait for 2026 tournament in Ontario.

One year ago, we launched Winnipeg’s first-ever 8-on-8 women’s flag football team introducing a brand new format to Canada.

This past weekend, we had the incredible honor of hosting the first-ever Women’s Flag Football Friendship Games, under the umbrella of the International Women’s Flag Football Association (IWFFA). We welcomed a team from Toronto, and were thrilled to have IWFFA founder Diane Beruldsen travel all the way from Key West to join us as a referee and supporter.

Beyond the games, we had the chance to proudly showcase our city. We toured Assiniboine Park Zoo, The Forks, and FortWhyte Alive sharing not just our sport, but the spirit of Winnipeg.

The Toronto team came not only to compete and deepen their understanding of 8-on-8 flag football, but to connect and build meaningful bonds with our Prairie Storm team. And while we’re proud to have won all three games, this event was about so much more than scores, it was about community, learning, and creating empowering experiences that help develop leadership beyond the field.

We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support of all Winnipeg's team members, friends and family and Park visitors that came out to cheer us on at Assiniboine Park.
