WSD would like to congratulate PPP student, Isabella Saverino, for being recognized as a 2026 Portrait of Giving honouree in the category of Young Adult. We are also honoured Isabella chose to have her portrait taken in our studio, or, as she calls it, her second home.
“Guided by strong values instilled by her family and a deep sense of Canadian pride, Isabella approaches giving with purpose and compassion. Her philosophy is simple: be the change you want to see. Through every initiative she undertakes, she continues to inspire others and strengthen the community around her.”
In addition to volunteering as a teaching assistant at WSD since she was 9, Isabella also co-created Hopebandz, a grassroots effort launched during the COVID-19 pandemic that raised over $1,500.00 for SickKids Foundation through the sale of handmade bracelets and accessories.
“Beyond these initiatives, Isabella has contributed through school leadership as a DECA executive and by supporting community events across York Region. Recognizing a need when she sees one, Isabella recently spearheaded a dancewear donation drive in partnership with Dance Happy Dancewear, helping redistribute costumes and shoes to those facing financial barriers.”
We are incredibly proud of you, Isabella! Congratulations!

For students who enjoy working with young people, WSD’s Teaching Assistant Program provides a wonderful opportunity for those interested in pursuing a career in teaching and/or wishing to broaden their own dance education. Students’ acceptance into the T.A. Program is based on a review of their application, general enthusiasm and demeanour demonstrated in all dealings related to WSD, plus overall dance ability and technique.
Students interested in applying for a volunteer T.A. position must complete an application form (available on our website, woodbridgedance.com) and are required to attend an Orientation Meeting at the commencement of the school year.
Participation in the Program may also offer students the opportunity to acquire community involvement hours necessary for the completion of their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
Applicants must be 11 years or older.

WSD GRAD SPOTLIGHT: Ava
“The past 15 years I have spent at WSD are defined by the lifelong friendships I’ve formed with my classmates, with whom I have shared this experience with. We have grown up alongside one another and supported each other through every milestone, creating the sense of community which was integral to my dance experience. I am equally grateful for the instructors whose mentorship and influence have and continue to inspire me to strive for excellence in everything that I do.
My dance experience has been transformative, one which I would recommend to anyone thinking of trying dance- it has shaped who I am today, and leaves an impact which extends beyond the studio and lasts a lifetime.”
Congratulations, Ava!

WSD Grad, Sienna, has advice for anyone looking to try dance:
“It’s so much more than just learning choreography. Dance is a place where you will meet some of the most amazing people and form close friendships. You end up gaining a second family and so many memories you wouldn’t get anywhere else, making it all so worth it.”
We couldn’t agree more.
Congratulations, Sienna!

Earlier this week, we celebrated the dedication and hard work of our teaching assistants. Thank you for being incredible role models to our younger students — we couldn’t do it without you!
