One of the biggest misconceptions about confidence is that confident kids aren’t nervous.
They are.
Confidence develops when children begin to learn:
“I can feel nervous AND still try.”
“I can make a mistake AND recover.”
“I don’t know how to do this YET.”
“I can ask for help.”
“I belong here even when I’m still learning.”
That can happen during a cheerleading stunt.
It can happen walking into a social group.
It can happen during a friendship conflict.
It can happen when a child stands up in front of the group for the first time.
Our job isn’t to remove every uncomfortable feeling.
It’s to give children safe opportunities to experience those feelings while surrounded by adults who help them build the skills to move through them.
That’s where confidence starts. 🤍
