GREENS MAINTENANCE UPDATE

Over the next two days, our maintenance team will be topdressing and venting the greens as we prepare the course for our fall golfing season.

Why do we topdress?

Topdressing adds a thin layer of sand to the putting surfaces. This helps:

• Smooth and firm the greens
• Improve ball roll and consistency
• Reduce the buildup of organic matter
• Improve drainage and airflow around the roots
• Support healthy greens over the long term

Why do we vent the greens?

Venting creates small channels in the surface and root zone. These channels help oxygen, water and nutrients reach the roots more effectively.

Venting also relieves compaction and encourages deeper, healthier root growth.

Why are we doing this now?

Early September is a good time for this work. The turf is still actively growing and has time to recover before cooler temperatures arrive.

This work will also support our fall fertility program. At this time of year, our focus shifts from encouraging summer growth to preparing the turf for winter.

Proper fall fertility helps strengthen the plants through the winter and supports healthier turf when spring arrives.

Together, these practices help protect the greens for the rest of this season and prepare them for the next one.

Timing is important

Rain is in the forecast later this week, so we need to plan carefully around the weather.

This is especially important because our aging irrigation system has limited water distribution, volume and coverage. Choosing the right weather window allows us to complete the work and manage the greens properly afterward.

Minimal disruption to play

These practices are designed to cause as little disruption as possible. Unlike more aggressive core aeration, venting and light topdressing allow the greens to remain playable almost immediately after the work is finished.

You may notice some sand on the greens or a slight change in how they look and feel. However, the effect on play should be minimal.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while our maintenance team works to keep the greens in the best condition possible.
