My initial attempts at a step off lunge. Rather a complex movement to get right but my glutes thanks me for it!

A lot of great core strength can be developed by incorporating instability, whether that be an unstable surface or unstable load.

Here is an example of one of many unstable surface challenges using a stability ball. This will tax the posterior chain muscles from the shoulder girdle, back and glutes.

The initial challenge is to establish stability on the ball BEFORE any movement. This initially is a challenge in itself but this was this clients first session practicing this movement.

This particular exercise can be regressed and progressed in a number of ways.

Bored of the classic ‘lawnmower’, aka one arm dumbbell row?

Try this variation. Targets the lats, rhomboids and mid traps. The set up is simple and can also be executed by supporting the non-working side on a bench as would be done in the standard one arm row.

No landmine set up, place the Olympic bar under a heavy dumbbell resting against the wall.

Core strength and endurance are critical to a functional, athletic, pain-free body. A properly conditioned core necessitates challenges in all planes of motion, including frontal, sagittal, and transverse, which goes beyond mere ab crunches that only address one plane of motion. This exercise demonstrates a dynamic transverse plane exercise utilizing resistance bands. 247 Amherstview 247 Amherstview

Cottage boredom relief! Well kind of.

Leg training sequence:

1. forward to reverse lunge walk
2. modified pistol squat
3. step up to single leg balance
4. dynamic jump to squat

Try this, with a short 60 second rest between each segment of the routine.

You are welcome.
