The Whitecaps had their year-end celebration last weekend, many amazing swimmers were recognized for their efforts this past season.

Celebrating our Nova Tech swimmers:

Graduation from Participation into Level 1:
Cohen King, Blake Sleeman, Lydia Green, Charlotte Muise, Jase Frotten, William Cheevers

Graduation from Level 1 to Level 2:
Lydia Green, Vincent Muise, Blake Sleeman, Duncan Atkinson

Graduation from Nova Tech Level 2 to Age Group:
Sarah Burns, Bella LeBlanc, Zachary Whittaker, Lachlan King

Nova Tech Swimmers had 80% best times at the Nova Tech Explosion (year end swim meet).

While the Age Group season is not over, we wanted to recognize the outstanding accomplishments so far this year:

AA & AAA Winter Champs in February, our team had 15 top 8 finishes, 10 of which were medals (top 3) between Grace Baxter, Bridget Murphy and Elliott Vacon

Placing at East Coast Championships in March, our team had 11 top 8 finishes, 5 of which were medals (top 3) between Grace Baxter, Bridget Murphy and Elliott Vacon

East Coast Championships are being held in Newfoundland in July. Bridget Murphy and Grace Baxter will be representing the Whitecaps.

Junior Whitecaps and Nova Tech Groups:

Sunshine Award – These swimmers demonstrate kindness, a positive attitude and happiness on the pool deck:

Outstanding Effort Award (Rand) – This swimmer demonstrated consistent participation in practices and team activities and always up for a challenge with a positive attitude.

Peggy Royal Award – These swimmers were noted to have great personal Improvement shown throughout the season

Megan Corkum Award – for persistence: this swimmer never give up and keeps moving towards their goals and persisted in the face of obstacles
All Groups: Duncan Atkinson

Nova Tech Participation: Nora Muise
Nova Tech Level 1&2: Cohen King and William Cheevers

Leadership Award – Angus Mackenzie & Lili Eyre (Nova Tech Participation Coaches)
Junior Leader Award – Grace Baxter and Bridget Murphy (Junior Whitecaps Leaders)
These candidates have served the team in a leadership capacity this past season, building skills related to: leading by example and being a positive role model. Helping to guide and lead their group. In between the lanes, they motivate team mates, participate in team activities and engage in positive communication.

Virginia Smith “Egg” Award – “Perseverance, Leadership and Grace” was presented to Jane Cunningham (outgoing club president). For her guidance, commitment and years served with the team (9+). Jane helped lead the team through many transitions, some being the retirement of longtime coach, Virginia Smith, the COVID pandemic – leading to a facility closure, open water swimming the summer of 2020, helping facilitate a swim season out of Universite St. Anne, advocating for the facility to reopen (now Mariniers on Main), and advising on and advocating for the building the new facility at the Mariners Centre. Jane’s contributions are felt at every level. The coaches and executive want to thank Jane for her dedication over the last 9+ years!

Yarmouth Whitecaps attended the AA and AAA Winter Championships at Dalplex March 6-7th. 5 whitecaps swimmers - Lili Eyre, Sarah Burns, Angus Mackenzie, Bridget Murphy and Grace Baxter were in attendance.

Whitecaps placed among the top spots for AAA, results are as follows:

Grace Baxter (12 & under):
400 Free - 1st
800 Free - 2nd
50 Fly - 2nd
50 Back - 3rd
100 Back - 2nd
200 Back - 3rd

Bridget Murphy (13-14):
50 Breast - 2nd
100 Breast - 2nd
200 Breast - 3rd
200 IM - 2nd
200 Back - 4th
800 Free - 5th

Angus Mackenzie (15 & over):
200 IM - 5th
200 Breast - 7th
200 Back - 8th

Our Nova Tech swimmers hit the water today for a successful Nova Tech and Age Group combined VALENTINES DAY themed meet, hosted by us in Clare.

Some of our newest and brightest swimmers travelled to Truro this past weekend to participate in the Nova Tech explosion.

Congratulations to all of the Nova Tech swimmers on a successful season. 15 swimmers participated and had 95% best times!
