Riley Lloyd #13 in the Rotax MAX DD2 and Senior Light Briggs classes out of the South Sask Kart Club (SSKC) and Andy Lloyd #23 racing for Oxford Brookes University in the 2026 BUKC series and part of the Oxford Brookes Racing Team in Formula Student.

Today was South Sask Kart Club race day #7. With all the changes this summer at his house, Riley has not been racing yet this season. However, he did spend today at the track on special assignment for the Club.

For the first time ever, Access Communications was at the track covering our race day. They reached out for some help with the colour commentary - Riley volunteered for the job. WOW, he did great! Martin Brundle might have a challenger!

The coverage will be broadcast on Regina Access7 on September 6th. Additional clips and photos will be added in the comments.

It was a legendary race for Cov Team ‘A’ - Team Kamikartze.

They drew a very weak kart - it was 4-5 seconds/ lap off their pace. After the first 2 hours, they had it into the mechanics 10 times. Multiple attempts to fix the issue failed to produce any improvements. Finally, the head mechanic took it out for one lap and agreed with them - the kart was not good! By that point they were in dead last, P60, 34 laps behind. They were issued a new kart and the Stewart’s reinstated them 17 laps back. Still, they were dead last in P60 and 17 laps behind after 3.5 hours of racing. Their aspirations of a top 10 finish were gone. With the reinstatement, at least they had the ability to race and improve their standing in the remaining. 20.5 hours.

Then, the team went to work. Their lap times strong and more consistent with their previous experiences at this circuit. They drove flawlessly clean - not one penalty or driver incident in 24 hours. They moved up the leader board, rather quickly at first as they cleared the slower teams. The climb up the rankings grew more difficult as they chased teams that were close to their own capabilities.

After a staggering 25 pits stops, 1001 laps, and battling from the back for 20.5 hours, they gained 36 positions and earned a P24 finish overall. What a recovery drive for this team! Well done lads!

Congratulations to Finley (Andy’s karting Captain while he raced at Coventry and teammate in this event in 2025), Euan (Andy and Riley’s teammate at this event in 2024) and their graduate team on their P1 finish, securing the top step on the podium for Coventry University!!!

It was another exciting BUKC 24 hour race event, full of witty team names, camaraderie, daring, competition, some wild racing strategies and bragging rights for another year!

Great job Andy!

Tuesday, Andy set aside his engineer’s hat and put on his race helmet. He spent the day at Snetterton Circuit piloting a race-prepped BMW M3 - Andy’s first day in a real race car at a real circuit.

The support provided by Track Focused was fantastic, Andy had a coach with him for the day helping him adapt from a kart to a car. Andy’s time improved each session, closing in on his coaches’ time in the same car.

Ride along for a hot lap with Andy. More photos to follow in the 1st Comment of this post (cannot post videos and pictures in the same post :().

Andy reports he learned a lot - what a day!

Great job going fast, Andy!

You see a young kid in a go-kart and think… “How cute.” “A fun little hobby on the weekends "

You see a dad working on the kart and think… “Just tinkering.”

You see a mum in the stands, filming, cheering, and think… “Just watching.”

But what you don’t see is everything behind it. You don’t see the late nights at home when everyone else is inside and dad's still chasing one more adjustment.

You don’t see the conversations about money to make sure tyres are replaced, parts are ordered, entry fees are paid and going without to make sure there's enough.

You don’t see the long drives and weekends away from home and away from their other family members and friends.

You don’t see the kid replaying every lap wondering what they could’ve done better. Or the parents choosing their feedback carefully after a race… because yes they’re building a driver, but more importantly, they’re raising their small person and that always has to take priority.

Because go-kart racing? It’s not just laps around a track. It’s discipline. It’s heartbreak. It’s learning how to lose without losing yourself. It’s learning how to win without forgetting who helped you get there and the work it took.

It’s family dinners eaten trackside, It’s being out all year in all weathers. It’s a life lived between camp beds, tools, and checkered flags.

And those kids? They’re not just driving. They’re learning how to handle pressure. How to stay focused when everything in them wants to panic. How to get back out there… even after a bad race.

So no… it’s not just a hobby. It’s sacrifices. It’s everything we don’t post about. It’s a family sport in every sense of the word.

Because behind every kid on that track with a dream… is a whole team who gave up a lot just to help them chase it. And if you’ve ever been there, heart racing with them every lap… you already know this life is not easy. But we’d choose it every single time. 🏆🏁

Shout out to all the parents out there making it work for their driver or drivers 💙
