Yoga Classes, Mini-retreats, 1:2:1's. Northants based. Carla Cooper - qualified yoga instructor. Hello, I’m Carla, a yoga teacher with over 30 years of practice.

My journey into yoga began as a personal exploration, and over time, it has evolved into a deep passion for sharing the practice as a tool for health and happiness. I completed a British Wheel of Yoga Foundation course in 2019, and a 300-hour Yoga Alliance Accredited Teacher Training in 2022. Since then I have continued to train adding certifications in pranayama, trauma-informed restorative yoga,

It's often said that the weather breaks just in time for the school holidays, but this Spring Bank Holiday has been absolutely glorious. I feel very lucky, and I'm sure everyone who was away enjoying a break at the same time feels the same. 🙏

The forecast suggests a change is on the way, just as we all return to our usual routines, but what a beautiful week it's been.

Yoga classes resume next week, and there's spaces available if you'd like to join. In the meantime, here are a few snapshots of the incredible beauty that nature — and the British weather — gifted me over the past week. 🌊☀️🌿

Feeling grateful. 🙏💕✨

🌿 Over this next block of classes, we’re focusing on something that’s been shaping my teaching more and more.

Foundations.

Because every yoga pose starts from the ground up — and how we build that foundation completely changes what we feel in the body.

There is no one-size-fits-all body in yoga.

And yet, both in some yoga lineages and in many online yoga spaces, things can become quite prescriptive — as if there is one “correct” way a pose should look or be done.

When you’re following online classes, it can sometimes feel like you need to match the shape or keep up, even if your body is asking for something different.

But in real-life teaching, with real bodies and real lives, that doesn’t really hold up.

So in these classes, we’ll be taking a more exploratory approach, with a reminder that you always have agency in your own practice.

We’ll look at how small changes in grounding, support, and alignment can completely change how a pose feels — and what works in *your* body.

Because every body is different: different joints, proportions, histories, and energy levels from day to day.

And while there are sensible guidelines in yoga, there’s also something equally important: your felt experience.

If something feels steady and appropriate in your body, that matters. If it doesn’t, we adjust and explore — not from fear, but awareness.

And when movement is connected to breath, something shifts:
the nervous system settles, the body feels safer, and ease and mobility naturally become more available.

Nothing forced. Just supported exploration.

If you’ve ever felt like yoga doesn’t quite “fit” your body, or online classes feel a bit prescriptive, this block is for you.

The next 6-week block begins week commencing 8th June ✨

🌿 One of the things I notice most in class is how people arrive… and how they leave.

Often people come in looking a bit rushed or distracted.

Maybe they’ve come straight from work, or from a full day of juggling life.
Perhaps the mind is still on emails, conversations, decisions, to-do lists.

Sometimes we don’t notice holding our breath, or the breath being shallow.
Our shoulders are slightly lifted.
We’re still in “doing mode.”

And then we start.

We arrive in our body, and move gently.
We breathe more fully.
We begin to link breath with movement, rather than holding it all in.

And bit by bit, things start to shift in the body.
Tension eases.
The breath deepens.
The nervous system starts to settle.

Then we come into stillness at the end — just to let everything land.

And that’s often where the change really happens.

Not because anything dramatic has been done…
but because the body finally has space to step out of “doing” and back into “being.”

And I notice it every week — as people gather their things to leave.

The faces are softer and lighter.
The energy is calmer.
People look more like themselves again.

This is why I teach yoga.

Not for perfect shapes, but for that shift — from tense and busy, to calm and present.

If life has been feeling a bit full-on lately, you’d be very welcome.

🌿 A lot of people come to yoga because they want to become more flexible.

And yes — with regular practice, flexibility and range of motion often improve naturally over time.

But what many people discover is that yoga becomes about so much more than touching their toes.

It becomes about:
🫁 Breathing more deeply
🧠 Quietening a busy mind
💛 Releasing tension and stress
🧍‍♀️ Moving with more ease and less stiffness
😴 Sleeping better
✨ Feeling calmer, steadier, and more connected to themselves

I often hear people say:
“I always feel better after class.”

And that’s really what I care most about.

Not perfection.
Not performance.
Not forcing your body into shapes.

Just creating space to move, breathe, stretch, rest, and reconnect with yourself for an hour each week.

So if you’ve been thinking:
“I’m too stiff for yoga…”

Please know that you’re very much not alone.

Yoga meets you where you are.

That’s a wrap on our current block of yoga classes 🎬

Thank you to everyone who joined me over the past few weeks. It’s always such a privilege to share these practices and spaces together. 🙏

As this block closes, I’m taking a little time to recoup and rebalance — which feels very fitting, because yoga is so often about finding balance both on and off the mat.

The next 6-week block begins week commencing 8th June, and I can’t wait to welcome you back soon ✨

Until then, take care and keep breathing 💛

Today is World Meditation Day 🌿

One of the biggest misconceptions about meditation is that you’re supposed to “stop thinking.”

But meditation isn’t about having a perfectly quiet mind.

Thoughts will come and go — that’s what minds do.

The practice is learning how to notice them without getting swept away by them. Creating a little more space between thoughts. Bringing mindful awareness to what’s already there.

Sometimes that space lasts a few breaths.
Sometimes it’s just a moment.

And that’s enough.

In our yoga classes, meditation isn’t about clearing your mind or “doing it right.” It’s about practicing presence, one breath at a time.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re “bad at meditation,” you’re probably much closer to the practice than you think 💛

In a world that constantly pulls our attention outward, it can become harder to hear ourselves clearly.

So much noise, information, stimulation… and after a while we can become fragmented, confused, and detached from our own experience.

Yoga feels like a gentle rebellion against that.

A practice that returns us to the body, the breath, and the quieter parts of ourselves.

It offers a chance to slow down enough to notice what’s actually here underneath all the input and distraction.

Not to find perfect clarity or suddenly have all the answers — but to remember what it feels like to sit quietly, to listen inward, and how nice it is to feel connected to our own life again.🧘‍♀️✨️💕🙏

A simple but powerful lesson from a 90-year-old monk 😊
