About the New York Mini Throughout the period of The Chinese Exclusion Act , Chinese-American communities began to play in fellowship tournaments.
The New York Mini was inspired by the game of 9-man volleyball – a game that originated in China in the 1920’s when American missionaries introduced the variant in Tai-Shan. As the laws against immigration and naturalization continued to isolate Chinese Americans, these tournaments united the Chinatown community to bond and forge friendships. 🏐 37th Annual NYMini Volleyball Tournament – Results Recap 🏐
Despite some unexpected weather challenges, the NYMini community showed up in full force this weekend! With 99 teams competing across six divisions, we adapted on the fly—adjusting formats to keep matches moving and the competition fierce. Thank you to everyone for your flexibility, teamwork, and understanding as we navigated the rain.
