Ultra Tour Monte Rosa was of course born in the Alps, but as many of you know, the idea for UTMR was conceived in Nepal and we have strong ties with this beautiful nation and its people.
Just before this year’s race, we were devastated by the news of the catastrophic Bhotekoshi flood on August 26, 2026, triggered by an ice-rock avalanche and glacier collapse near the Nepal-Tibet border, resulting in approximately 1,400 deaths and leaving over 4,000 people missing across northern and central Nepal and Tibet. We know parts of the Bhotekoshi valley very well, and our hearts go out to everyone affected by this tragedy.
As UTMR we have so far raised 10,000 CHF which has been donated directly to the official relief fund set up by the Prime Minister of Nepal. Newly installed after last year’s protests, this government is already making big changes and is fully accountable to its people: https://pmdrf.nchl.com.np
Thank you for being a part of the 2026 Ultra Tour Monte Rosa and making it possible for us to support Nepal through this very difficult time.
Apart from the areas directly affected by the flooding, Nepal is safe and open to visitors. Many, many people and communities across Nepal rely on tourism and visitors for their livelihood. The other way to support Nepal right now is to continue visiting and exploring its beautiful mountains and communities. Through the rest of 2026 and into 2027 we (Kora Explore) are offering some special adventures, please consider joining us or visiting independently. Please do sign up for our newsletter if you’d like to stay updated: https://eepurl.com/dfWQur.
We wish you a beautiful autumn and a good end to 2026. We’d love to welcome you back to a future edition of UTMR, to run or to volunteer!
Best wishes to you all,
Lizzy and the UTMR team
