🚡 Die wohl verrückteste Seilbahn der Schweiz!
Die historische Zingelbahn bei Obermatt wurde 1923 erbaut und funktioniert nach einem genial einfachen Prinzip: Der Tank der oberen Gondel wird mit Wasser gefüllt. Durch das zusätzliche Gewicht zieht sie die andere Gondel nach oben – ganz ohne Motor und ohne Strom für den Antrieb.
Die Bahn überwindet auf nur 790 Metern rund 580 Höhenmeter, kommt ohne eine einzige Stütze aus und schwebt stellenweise fast 200 Meter über dem Boden. Eine Fahrt dauert ungefähr 90 Sekunden – gebremst wird von Hand!
Ob sie tatsächlich die schnellste Seilbahn der Welt ist, lässt sich nicht eindeutig belegen. Einzigartig ist dieses Stück Schweizer Technikgeschichte aber auf jeden Fall. Heute dient die private Bahn nur noch dem Materialtransport; Personen dürfen offiziell nicht mehr mitfahren.

🚡 Possibly Switzerland’s craziest cable car!
The historic Zingelbahn near Obermatt was built in 1923 and operates according to an ingeniously simple principle: The tank of the upper cabin is filled with water. Its additional weight pulls the other cabin uphill – without a motor and without electricity for propulsion.
The cableway climbs around 580 vertical metres over a distance of only 790 metres. It has no supporting towers and, at certain points, travels almost 200 metres above the ground. The journey takes approximately 90 seconds – and the system is braked by hand!
Whether it really is the world’s fastest cable car has not been conclusively proven. But it is undoubtedly a unique piece of Swiss engineering history. Today, this privately owned cableway is used only to transport materials; carrying passengers is no longer officially permitted.
