This month article depicts the latest research on the gluteal muscle activation of specific exercises compared to traditional strength training exercises.

This article discusses in details acceleration-specific exercises and the EMG activity of the gluteal muscle. Also, this paper explores how these acceleration-specific exercises can influence exercise prescription which is valuable for many coaches and physical preparation specialists.

This article will illustrate an evidence-based training plan designed by the process of reverse engineering. Also, this paper focuses on agility training that enables the process of reverse engineering to be applicable to many sports, athletes and coaches.

is an experienced performance scientist, strength & conditioning specialist and performance coach. Over 15 years’ delivery and coaching experience, specialising in high-load speed strength in Olympic-level athletes.

He is an evidence-based critical thinker holding BSc and MSc qualifications in Sports Sciences. A devotion to research, accuracy and detail and can seamlessly integrate into teams and positively influence environments, processes and people.

Urs Granacher is full professor and head of Exercise and Human Movement Science, Department of Sport and Sport Science, University of Freiburg, Germany.

His research priority falls in the field of strength and conditioning with a specific focus on the effects of strength and balance training on measures of physical fitness and the underlying physiological adaptations in different cohorts (e.g., children, adolescents, youth and elite athletes, seniors).

Additional key components of his research constitute the development of targeted interventions to improve motor skill performance, and to reduce injuries in different sports (e.g., soccer, judo, handball). Dr. Granacher is member of ten editorial boards including Sports Medicine, British Journal of Sports Medicine, Scientific Reports, Frontiers in Physiology.

During the annual SSCA workshop, Urs will be discussing neuromuscular and resistance training for performance enhancement in youth athletes.

Continuing on this year’s SSCA Workshop topic - SPEED, this month article explores the correlations between horizontal jump distance and sprint acceleration and maximal speed performance.

This systematic review and meta-analysis will provide strength coachs and trainers with valuable information on the influence of different horizontal jumps (standing long jump, single leg standing long jump, horizontal drop jump, multiple jump) on acceleration and speed performance.

is an Associate Professor at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences as well as a consultant and physical therapist at Olympiatoppen, which is a part of Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic committee and Confederation of Sports.

He has consulted with national and international level athletes for the past 10 years ranging from PGA, LPGA, NHL, NFL, ATP, WTA, NBA to EPL, as well as non-athletes. He currently serves as the head of research and development with 1080 Motion. He is a nationally and internationally recognized teacher/speaker and constantly seek to evolve our understanding on how to improve human and athletic performance through scientific exploration.

During the annual SSCA workshop, Ola will present a practical session on the determinant factors of change of direction in sports and how to use 1080motion technology to get faster.
