1982

By the early 1980s, Ski Service had become a key part of Verbier’s ski scene. With a growing rental fleet, expert advice, and a focus on innovation, we helped skiers make the most of every day on the mountain.

This was also the era when Verbier earned international recognition as “Le Must des Vacances.” Bold ski suits, mirrored sunglasses, packed slopes, and skis stacked on cars captured the energy of the time. Between lively streets, wooden chalets, and unforgettable mountain days, Verbier was becoming the iconic destination we know today.

1979

Verbier was booming, and Ski Service grew with it. With more visitors arriving each winter, the shop expanded its selection and strengthened its reputation for getting people truly mountain-ready. And yes—those late-70s winters delivered the kind of conditions we’ve been enjoying this week: fresh snow, deep turns, and that unmistakable Verbier buzz when everything lines up.

But with snowfall like this comes the same reality then as now: avalanche risk. It existed back in 1979, and it very much exists today—so stay informed, make good decisions, and stay safe out there.

Biking season is coming to an end. It has been an incredible autumn but the snow is on the horizon and with temperatures dropping, it is time to pack up the summer and get the shop ready for an epic winter.
