🥇Payne and Rousseau clinch 2026 FIM Sidecar World Championship!!!

Harrison Payne (ARS Yamaha) and Kevin Rousseau are the 2026 FIM Sidecar World Champions. The British/French pairing – who won the title together in 2024 – clinched the crown with victory in Saturday’s Sprint race at the sixth and deciding round staged at Oschersleben in Germany before signing off with their ninth victory of the season when they dominated Sunday’s Main race.

Taking the title with a forty-point winning margin from defending champions Sam and Thomas Christie (LCR Yamaha) from Great Britain before a further nine-point gap back to third-placed Pekka Päivärinta (ARS Yamaha) and Adam Christie, the writing was on the wall as early as Qualification when the British/French pairing were almost a full second clear of the chasing pack.

Starting the weekend with a twenty-five-and-a-half-point advantage, Payne/Rousseau led into the first turn of the Sprint race chased by the French son and father pairing of Ted and Vincent Peugeot (LCR Yamaha), Christie/Christie and Swiss star Markus Schlosser (LCR Yamaha) and his German passenger Lucas Krieg with the Finnish/British pairing of Päivärinta/Christie holding an initial fifth.

As Payne/Rousseau began to open a gap, the Peugeots and the Christies waged war over second position while, a little further back, an equally fierce battle was developing between Schlosser/Krieg and Päivärinta/Christie for fourth.

Buoyed up by their first podium together two rounds ago in Italy, Peugeot/Peugeot continued to press the soon-to-be champions and even began to reduce the deficit in the closing stages of the twelve-lap race. Although were unable to get close enough to make a move and finished just under two seconds behind before a gap of around eleven-and-a-half seconds to the Christie brothers.

Despite race-long pressure, the experienced Päivärinta – who has signalled his intention to retire from top-flight racing – and Christie were unable to find their way around Schlosser/Krieg and ended the race five points adrift of the by now former champions in the contest for the silver medal.

Determined to sign off with a champions’ performance, Payne/Rousseau led the field from the start of Sunday’s twenty-one-lap Main race ahead of Peugeot/Peugeot, the Christie brothers and Schlosser/Krieg.

However, at the end of lap one Schlosser/Krieg span into a gravel trap and although they kept going there was significant damage to their outfit’s bodywork and two laps later, when the safety car came out after Peugeot/Peugeot had crashed, the Swiss racer – FIM Sidecar World Champion Rider in 2021 – steered into the pits and did not return.

This handed third to five-time FIM Sidecar World Champion Rider Päivärinta and Christie from Australian brothers Corey and Danyon Turner (ARS Yamaha) who have been building confidence in their debut year in the series and equalled their season-best finish of sixth in the opening race.

When the safety car pulled off, Payne/Rousseau immediately set about restoring their advantage and wasted little time in establishing a lead that at one point was over ten seconds before the Christie brothers – who were looking good for series silver in second – reduced it to a little over eight-and-a-half seconds when the chequered flag came out.

Less than half-a-second further back, Päivärinta/Christie came home in third to secure the bronze medal with the Turner brothers clearly delighted with a career-best finish of fourth ahead of the German/French pairing of Patrick Werkstetter (ARS Yamaha) and Valentin Pirat.

“Payne and Rousseau finish with a clean sheet”

After securing their second World Championship yesterday Harry Payne and Kevin Rousseau wanted to put the icing on the cake with a win today. But the championship was not over for the second and third placings.

The start of the 21 lap race was held in near perfect conditions, a slight breeze and warm, but not too bright.

As the lights went out Payne and Rousseau immediately took the lead followed by Ted and Vincent Peugeot, Sam and Tom Christie followed them with Markus Schlosser and Lucas Krieg slightly behind. Pekka Paivarinta and Adam Christie were next up, there was a small gap then it was Tim Reeves and Luca Schmidt, with Patrick Werkstetter and Valentin Pirat next. Thomas Eder and kevin Kolsch were next up with Corey and Danyon Turner next, another small gap then it was Bennie Streuer and Manon Vissenberg in the middle to their right was Wiggert Kranenburg and Loris Charteau, to the left was Kevin Cable and Jann Druel. Michael Brillault and Fabrice Deturche were next with Raymond Leijdekkers and Thomas Hofer next; Claude Vinet and Leane Marsal were next with Rogier Weekers and Remco Moes just in front of Ulric Brillault and Cora Marsal.

Lap two, Payne and Rousseau were out in front with the Peugeot’s just behind, these two teams were starting to make a break from the rest of the field, the Christie brothers were a good 2 to 3 bike lengths behind, there was a fair gap too to Paivarinta and Christie but Schlosser and Kreig had gone, they had a moment in the last corners when their machine just broke away from them causing Paivarinta and Christie having to take avoiding action, this too meant that Reeves and Schmidt were taking avoiding action too, Reeves and Schmidt lost out though they were way back in tenth now. Schlosser and Kreig continued but the front of their fairing was missing.

Lap three saw the safety car deployed as the Peugeot’s had a moment at the bottom end of the circuit resulting with passenger Vincent falling and barrel rolling way into the kitty litter, he lay for a while with the marshals in attendance until he managed to get to his feet and he was helped away, a DNF for them, and also Schlosser and Kreig came into pit lane with their damaged machine.

With the safety car out the whole field bunched up and it was going to be a mad rush for the first corner again when it came in.
Payne and Rousseau, the Christie brothers and Paivarinta and Christie were ready and off at full gas again, but it was the Turner brothers who were sitting in fourth now and not too far off Paivarinta and Christie. There was a bit of a gap and it was Werkstetter and Pirat next fending off Eder and Kolsch. Reeves and Schmidt were fighting hard trying to get back up the field but they had Kranenberg and Charteau, and Cable and Druel in front, they did manage to pass but on lap 7 the team pulled into pitlane for a DNF.

Lap eight saw Vinet and Marsal DNF with a mechanical failure.

Out in the front Payne and Rousseau were starting to make a good gap on the Christie brothers who were now under pressure from Paivarinta and Christie, behind them the turner brothers were in a good fourth but Werkstetter and Pirat were starting to make inroads on them and in doing so were dragging along Eder and Kolsch. For the teams behind them it was to turn out a lonely race for them. But for Leijdekkers and Hofer, they now were suffering from a miss firing machine but they continued but were under pressure from Brillault and Deturche.

In the closing stages of the race Payne and Rousseau had this well under control barring any mechanical issues. But behind them a great battle between the Christie brothers and Paivarinta and Christie who now had broken away from the Turner brothers.

Paivarinta and Christie did all they could to pass for the second but the Christie brothers were holding their place. The battle behind them between the Turner brothers, Werkstetter and Pirat and Eder and Kolsch was hotting up now, Werkstetter/Pirat were starting to close down the Turner brothers and were pulling along Eder and Kolsch who were now catching Werkstetter and Pirat, could the Turner brothers hold them off for a great fourth place in their first year at this level and having travelled so far from Australia for this season.

As the chequred flag was getting ready for Payne and Rousseau all eyes were on the second and third placings, was Paivarinta and Christie going to manage and pass the Christie brothers for the second place and take second in the championship.

Payne and Rousseau took the race win and another fastest lap of the race, a time of 1:30.909, the team on pit wall celebrated their win and Championship title.

Out of the last corner, the Christie brothers managed to hold off Paivarinta and Christie for second place and in doing so secured second in the championship for them, a good third for Paivarinta and Christie giving them third in the championship.

Behind them it was close at the line for fourth, but the Turner brothers held their place and to the delight of all the team and followers they were rewarded with a great fourth place to end their long season.

Werkstetter and Pirat held off Eder and Kolsch for a fifth place, Eder/Kolsch a great sixth for them.

Streuer and Vissenberg took a lonely seventh place, with Kranenburg and Charteau a good eighth.

One lap down on the leaders was Cable and Druel who took ninth, with a best result of the year for Brillault and Deturche rounding off the top ten. Leijdekkers and Hofer nursed their machine home to take eleventh.

Two laps down on the leaders the final two places went to Weekers and Moes, twelfth with Brillault and Marsal thirteenth.

So that brings to a close the 2026 FIM, “Marin Motorsport” Sidecar Partners” World Sidecar Championship. We will see what 2027 brings along.

“Race win for Payne and Rousseau gives them the Championship”

The sun was shining in Oschersleben for the 12 lap sprint race which could decide the 2026 championship winners.

As the lights went out Harry Payne and Kevin Rousseau took the lead from Ted and Vincent Peugeot with Sam and Tom Christie right behind. Markus Schlosser and Lucas Krieg got a good start and were leading Pekka Paivarinta and Adam Christie, next up was Tim Reeves and Luca Schmidt with Patrick Werkstetter and Valentin Pirat right behind. Thomas Eder and Kevin Kolsch were beside Bennie Streuer and Manon Vissenberg. The Turner Brothers Corey and Danyon were right with Streuer and Vissenberg. Kevin Cable and Jann Druel were next with Wiggert Kranenburg and Loris Charteau, Raymond Leijdekkers and Thomas Hofer were next with Michael Brillault and Fabrice Deturche just behind, Claude Vinet and Leane Marsal were just in front of Rogier Weekers and Remco Moes with Ulric Brillault and Cora Marsal bringing up the rear.

As the race progressed, Payne and Rousseau were stretching out their lead over the Peugeot’s, but the Peugeot’s were pushing hard trying to get a gap between them and the Christie Brothers. Paivarinta and Christie were pushing hard too, with the thought of getting by Schlosser and Krieg but they were not having much luck. This was to be one of the battles throughout the race.

Not far behind was Reeves and Schmidt, they were pushing, trying to catch the two in front, but they were under pressure from Werkstetter and Pirat. There was a three way battle going on behind them between Eder and Kolsch, Streuer and Vissenberg, and the Turner Brothers these three teams were fighting hard for top placings and in the process trying to catch Werkstetter and Pirat.

Another good battle was between Cable and Druel fending off a hard charging Kranenburg and Charteau but starting to get in the mix was Leijdekkers and Hofer.

Vinet and Marsal had passed Brillault and Deturche, also Brillault and Marsal had passed Weekers and Moes, Vinet and Marsal were making a break but the gap to Leijdekkers and Hofer was a good one.

At the front it was turning out to be a lonesome race for the top three teams with good gaps between them, but they were all pushing hard.

The battle between Schlosser/Krieg and Paivarinta/Christie raged on but Schlosser/Kreig were getting better drive out of the corners leaving Paivarinta/Christie having to really work hard and make the time up again and start all over again in trying to pass.

The battle behind them between Eder/Kolsch, Streuer/Vissenberg, and the Turner Brothers still raged on too, and so was the Cable/Druel, Kranenburg/Charteau who now had made a break from Leijdekkers/Hofer.

Reeves and Schmidt were starting to haul in Paivarinta and Christie in so pulling Werkstetter and Pirat along with them, but on lap six they were to pull in with an electrical problem, at first though they thought the engine had expired, but it turned out it was ok, but it was to be a DNF for them.

As the race was coming to a close the Peugeot’s were starting to catch Payne and Rousseau but the gap was too much for them as the chequred flag came out, but they had caught up a lot, Payne and Rousseau took the win and had the fastest lap of the race a time of 1:30.765. After their Championship win in the French domestic championship last weekend they now have the 2026 FIM, “Marin Motorsport” “Sidecar Partners” Sidecar World Championship under their belt.

The Peugeot’s took second, only 1.873 behind Payne and Rousseau, they were delighted with this result and will be going for the same, if not better tomorrow.

It turned out a lonely race for the Christie Brothers who took third from Schlosser and Krieg fourth and Paivarinta and Christie fifth. But this third place, and with Paivarinta and Christie fifth it is all to fight for in the second and third places in the championship tomorrow.

The last lap saw the Turner Brothers who had earlier fought hard and passed Edder and Kolsch make a move on Werkstetter and Pirat for sixth place they made the pass and kept it, with Werkstetter/Pirat losing out on the last lap.

Eder and Kolsch took eighth, another good race for them and a good result, but they only crossed the line in front of Streuer and Vissenberg, ninth.

The battle between Cable/Druel and Kranenberg/Charteau went the way of Kranenberg/Charteau who once got by pulled away; they finished tenth, Cable/Druel eleventh.

The next five teams were all one lap down on the leaders as the flag came out. Leijdekkers and Hofer stayed in front of Vinet and Marsal, with Brillault/Deturche ahead of Brillault/Marsal ahead of Weekers and Moes, twelfth through to sixteenth respectfully.

Tomorrow the main 21 lap race will start at 14:20 local time.

“Top notch from Payne and Rousseau”

It was a lovely fresh sunny morning for the World Sidecar teams to go out on track for their qualifying.

Disappointment for Lewis Nicol and Marklin Valentin, after their mechanical problems yesterday they were out on track but they did not manage to qualify for the races.

Harry Payne and Kevin Rousseau took to the track first followed by Ted and Vincent Peugeot. These two were circulating at break neck speed. On the fifth lap Payne and Rousseau set a mind blowing time of 1:30.794 which secured them pole position. The following lap the Peugeot’s set a time of 1:31.772 this was to put them second on the grid next to Payne and Rousseau.

Sam and Tom Christie were on the pace too but they just could not match the leading pair, they set a time of 1:32.202 good for third, they were happy but not happy! They tried hard but just missed out.

Pekka Paivarinta and Adam Christie set the fourth fastest time, this was 1:32.239. The team made some small suspension changes for qualifying, the team were happy with this.

Markus Schlosser and Lucas Krieg set the fifth fastest time, a 1:32.865. The team were reasonably happy with this but they still don’t seem to get a good feeling with their machine.

Tim Reeves and Luca Schmidt were a lot happier today, they set the sixth fastest time, a 1:32.871, the team made a few adjustments after yesterday’s free practice.

Next up is Patrick Werkstetter and Valentin Pirat they set a time of 1:33.106, They have shrugged off their upside down excursion from yesterday and are happy with how things are.

A great qualifying for the new team Thomas Eder and Kevin Kolsch, they are getting faster each time they take to the track, this is only their third race weekend at this level and they have set a time of 1:33.788.

Also too, a good qualifying time for Corey and Danyon Turner, they set a time of 1:33.862, they have had to make a few changes overnight, but they seem to have sorted a lot of niggling problems out.

Rounding off the top ten is Bennie Streuer and Manon Vissenberg they had problems yesterday and worked into the night rectifying these, but unfortunately they had a front set up problem today, but still tenth with a time of 1:33.913.

The top ten are close with their lap times; hopefully we will see good battles in the race.

There is a gap to the next team with lap time. Wiggert Kranenburg and Loris Charteau set the next time of 1:36.893, good for eleventh, they will be hoping for a good start and get pulled up with the rest in front.

Kevin Cable and Jann Druel were reasonably happy but they knew they could have done better, they hope the race will be good for them. Raymond Leijdekkers was happy and he has Thomas Hofer in the chair for the rest of the weekend. They will be looking to have a good race, their lap time is not far off Cable and Druel just in front.

Claude Vinet and Leane Marsal had some front end handling issues in qualifying; they hope to iron this out for the race and get up with the two in front and have a good race.

Michael Brillault and Fabrice Deturche, Ulric Brillault and Cora Marsal, and Rogier Weekers and Remco Moes will be at the back of the grid but they will hope they can have a good battle between themselves.

The 12 lap sprint race will start at 16:15 local time.

Oschersleben, Germany.

Free Practice Two.

Dry track, sun was out, just the right combination for the second free practice in Oschersleben.

Unfortunately for Lewis Nicol and Valentin Marklin, they missed out on both free practice sessions today. They found they had engine problems just before the first session. They will have to try and find their way round in qualifying tomorrow as this is the first time driver Nicol has been here in Oschersleben.

Bennie Streuer and Manon Vissenberg were going well in this practice, setting a time of 1:34.484, good for seventh. However they encountered engine problems, so they will be working on their machine tonight for qualifying tomorrow.

At the start of the session it was a busy track out there, it took a few laps for things to settle down, letting the teams get on with the job in hand.

By the end of the session it was Harry Payne and Kevin Rousseau who set the fastest time, a 1:31.307, and this time was just over half a second under the lap record time, so they are really up for the challenge over the weekend.

The second fastest time went to Sam and Tom Christie, this was a 1:32.719. The brothers were happy with this and hope they can improve in qualifying tomorrow.

The third fastest time went to Ted and Vincent Peugeot, this was a 1:32.993. The team are really happy with this and they did not have any problems throughout free practice.

Setting the fourth fastest time was Pekka Paivarinta and Adam Christie, their time was 1:33.241. Again the team are happy, but they want a better time in qualifying.

Setting the fifth fastest time was Markus Schlosser and Lucas Krieg, they were happy but know they can be faster, they hope tomorrow will be good for them.

Qualifying will take place at 10:15 local time tomorrow, (Saturday) also there will be a 12 lap sprint race at 16:15 local time.

Oschersleben, Germany.

Free Practice one.

“Sidecars are go”

It was dry, but overnight rain had left the circuit damp in sections, and adding to the slick track was oil the whole way round. The circuit marshals and track team had done a great job cleaning, but for the first few laps the sidecar teams were taking things easy.

There was a red flag early on in the session when Patrick Werkstetter and Valentin Pirat turned their machine over in the first corner complex. Both driver and passenger are okay and checking over their machine.

Setting the fastest time was Sam and Tom Christie, a time of 1:34.293, followed by Pekka Paivarinta and Adam Christie, their time was a 1:34.919.

The third fastest time went to Ted and Vincent Peugeot, they set a time of 1:35.089.

Tim Reeves and Luca Schmidt set the fourth fastest time of 1:36.049.

The Turner brothers set the fifth fastest time of 1:36.590.

Expect the times to drop as the day goes on as the track will be getting cleaned with more and more laps getting done by other classes.

The second free practice will take place at 17:05 local time.

❓ Can Päivärinta make it title number six at Oschersleben

With a career in top-flight racing stretching back more than two decades, Finland’s Pekka Päivärinta (ARS Yamaha) is a five-time FIM Sidecar Rider World Champion who in 2024 – as part of the FIM’s one-hundred-and-twentieth anniversary celebrations – was officially recognised as an FIM Legend.

To give this some context, Päivärinta shares the rare accolade with just a handful of motorcycle sport’s most famous names including Toni Bou, Valentino Rossi, Stefan Everts and Marc Márquez and the fifty-five-year-old is guaranteed to add another medal to his trophy cabinet this season – although whether it is gold, silver or bronze will not be decided until this coming weekend (2-4 October).

Starting the sixth and decided round of the 2026 FIM Sidecar World Championship in Oschersleben, Germany, twenty-five-and-a-half points behind series leaders Harrison Payne (ARS Yamaha) and Kevin Rousseau, Päivärinta and his British passenger Adam Christie are tied for second with Christie’s brothers – reigning champions Sam and Thomas Christie (LCR Yamaha).

He knows the odds are stacked against him and Payne and Rousseau could seal the title in the opening race, but Päivärinta will be going for gold in the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben.

“If I were to win the world championship again, it would certainly be big news and would prove a lot to me and the fans about all the hard work we’ve put in,” he said. “For Adam it would be brilliant – he’s hoping for it and it would also be the best reward for him for all his hard work.”

Päivärinta and Christie’s consistency this season has been key to their success. Out of the ten points-scoring races held so far, they have only missed the podium twice and dominated round two at Grobnik-Rijeka in Croatia where they scored a double win.

With such a wealth of experience, it may come as a surprise to some that the Finn is very aware of rising tensions in the lead-up to the Oschersleben showdown.

“My experience has shown that I always achieve good, consistent results, but I still get just as nervous every time, hoping I’ll succeed and make progress towards my goals.”

He is also hinting at retirement at the end of the season – “this coming weekend is special because I’m planning to step aside and make way for the younger riders” – although his love for the sport means this is by no means set in stone.

“Motorsport has always been a part of my family. I took it up as a hobby when I was young and later it became my job and my success. My passion drives me forward every year and, of course, the paddock is like a second family to me – I have lots of friends there.”

If Oschersleben really is to be his swansong, then Päivärinta is keeping his cool with possibly only two races left in his amazing top-flight career.

“I always race to win and if I get the chance I’ll give it my all, but the standard is extremely high right now and the other teams are very good because they’re world champions – let’s see how it all plays out at the final round.”

The action in Germany is scheduled to get under way on Saturday (3 October) with the twelve-lap Sprint race at 16:30 with the twenty-one-lap Main race starting the following day at 14:35 (all local times).

All the action from Oschersleben will be streamed LIVE on FIM-MOTO TV along with behind-the-scenes footage, interviews and expert analysis.

🍿 World Championship goes down to the wire in Germany

The 2026 FIM Sidecar World Championship concludes this coming weekend (2-4 October) with the sixth and deciding round at Oschersleben in Germany where 2024 champions Harrison Payne (ARS Yamaha) and Kevin Rousseau will start with the title almost within their reach.

The British/French pairing head to the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben with a twenty-five-and-a-half-point lead, knowing that victory in Saturday’s twelve-lap Sprint race will put the championship out of reach of their rivals and having won seven of the ten races staged so far this season, it would be unwise to bet against them.

However, they also have a DNF on their 2026 record from race two in Cremona and a second no-score in the opening race at Oschersleben this weekend, would throw the title race wide open again with Pekka Päivärinta (ARS Yamaha) and Adam Christie and defending champions Sam and Thomas Christie (LCR Yamaha) perfectly positioned to take advantage.

Tied on points with the British brothers for second, the veteran Finn and his British passenger – who is the brother of the reigning champions – claimed a double win at round two in Croatia and have only finished off the podium twice this season, while the Christie brothers have dropped out of the top three on just one occasion and it is this incredible consistency that has seen the three top crews pull comfortably clear of the chasing pack.

With no-one else within striking distance, the medals will be disputed between the leading trio, although this unique discipline’s global fanbase can still look forward to a weekend of world-class racing with plenty of passing – and no shortage of drama – guaranteed.

Swiss star Markus Schlosser (LCR Yamaha), the world champion rider in 2021, has teamed up with new German passenger Lucas Kreig this season and the partnership has shown huge potential with the pair sitting a clear fourth in the standings, thirty-two points ahead of the French son and father pairing of Ted and Vincent Peugeot (LCR Yamaha).

Peugeot/Peugeot are on course for their best-ever finish together and will be looking to replicate their debut podium achieved at round four at Cremona in Italy, but the competition is fierce throughout the field with former champion rider Bennie Streuer (ARS Yamaha) and his fellow Dutchman Manon Viseenberg only four points adrift of the French pairing.

Also showing podium potential in the closing stages of the championship, the German/French pairing of Patrick Werkstetter (ARS Yamaha) and Valentin Pirat were in great form last time out at Assen, as were Britain’s Lewis Blackstock (LCR Yamaha) and Oscar Lawrence who were third in the Main race in the Netherlands on their 2026 series debut.
