How to improve your toddler’s back float 😊 If your toddler struggles with back floating, you are not alone! It is completely normal for toddlers to have difficulty in this position. The reality is, as babies get older, their physical development can make laying on their back uncomfortable and simply not exciting. They are ready to see the world more vertically and therefore may not enjoy back floating like they did when they were infants. Due to these reasons, we don’t have to force children over 8 months old to back float. In the meantime, we will focus on strengthening the child’s breath control, submersions and floats. Once a child becomes comfortable with deep dive submersions, they will be ready to return back to floating on their back and will enjoy it much more! If you do think your child has potential to enjoy back floating, here are some of our tips: - Shorten the duration: 10 seconds of back floating is plenty! - Use distractions: take your child’s attention away from the skill they are not enjoying. - Make it fun: use toys, games & songs to help your child enjoy the skill more. - Use positive encouragement: don’t forget to tell your child they are doing a great job! - Lower your expectations: your child may not be perfect at back floating and that is okay 😊 Don’t forget to follow us for more swimming tips! 💕
