The Swiss Polo Association (SPA) is pleased to announce that Stefan A. Locher was elected as President of the SPA as of October 2025.

Stefan A. Locher, a longstanding polo player and member of Largovia Polo, brings great personal passion and experience to the sport. An ophthalmologist with his own practice in Zurich (OKeye.ch), he is an active player himself and was also a founding member of the former Legacy Polo Club (now Largovia Polo), where he worked to promote the development and broader establishment of polo in Switzerland.

Under his leadership, the SPA will continue its mission of representing the interests of all Swiss polo clubs, coordinating the national team and international participation, as well as overseeing tournament regulations and player handicaps.

Stefan A. Locher emphasises the value of the collective strength of Switzerland’s polo community and the importance of increasing visibility, respect for the sport’s heritage and enabling broader access to competitive and social polo.

The SPA welcomes his presidency and looks forward to a future of continuity, collaboration and renewed energy across Swiss polo clubs and events.

// - 🏇❄️ – Right of Way explained!

One of the most important safety and strategy rules in polo is the Right of Way. It determines which player has priority to the ball and ensures the game flows fairly and safely.

✅ A player only loses their right of way if they are ridden off or legally hooked by another player.
✅ In a ride-off, one player can push an opponent off the line of the ball – but it must be done side by side, never at a dangerous angle.

This rule makes polo not only a thrilling, fast-paced sport but also one of great precision, balance and horsemanship. Every second on the snowy field of St. Moritz, riders calculate speed, angles and timing to either protect their right of way – or challenge their opponent’s. ⚡

Patricio Gaynor Benoit is making history as he wears the national colours for the very first time !

Reto Gaudenzi and Fabio Meier were appointed as National Team Managers last October. Over the winter season in Argentina, they worked diligently on the selection and training of players.

In early August, Fabio unfortunately suffered a muscle tear, which prevented him from participating in several of the planned tournaments. Nevertheless, his focus remained firmly on being ready for the European Championship – and he achieved exactly that.

Today, our national team won their semi-final game against Italy.
