How FIFA is helping to shape a brighter future in the Philippines 🇵🇭

FIFA’s numerous development programmes have been “instrumental” in shaping a brighter future for football and futsal in the Philippines, Philippine Football Federation (PFF) President John Gutierrez has said.

The Philippines hosted its first FIFA tournament with the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup™ in 2025 after the FIFA Forward development programme had contributed to the renovation of facilities used by participating teams and laid the groundwork for significant tournament legacy.

The majority of the USD 5.8 million in funding committed so far to the Philippines across FIFA Forward’s three phases has supported the construction of a new PFF headquarters, providing Mr Gutierrez’s organisation with a fit-for-purpose platform to implement their plan entitled “Walang Maiiwan!” - No one will be left behind.

Mr Gutierrez said: “FIFA’s Forward Programme has been instrumental in building a stronger and more sustainable football ecosystem in the Philippines. It has steadfastly provided opportunities for young Filipinos to learn the sport, consistently participate in football and be discovered for the national team pool.”

Following the implementation of both the FIFA Football for Schools initiative and the FIFA Talent Development Scheme in 2023, FIFA Arena established its first mini-pitch in the country in 2026 to reinforce the flourishing grassroots environment. Meanwhile, the construction of a second mini-pitch has already been completed.

FIFA Forward also funded the creation of a national league for women and also a domestic U-15 championship for boys in 2018.

Youth football is flourishing in Liberia thanks to several projects which have been supported by FIFA 🇱🇷🙌

In one of the most recent developments, the FIFA Arena project – which aims to build 1,000 pitches around the world by 2031 in less-privileged urban and rural areas – arrived in the West African country in September 2025.

More than 3,000 children will benefit from two mini-pitches installed at schools in Paynesville, part of the Greater Monrovia area, as a result of collaboration between FIFA and the Liberia football association (LFA).

A standard-size, FIFA-approved artificial playing surface at the Gompa Stadium was installed in the north-eastern Nimba county, with funding from the FIFA Forward Programme.

The work also includes major upgrades to the existing stadium, such as the installation of floodlights, an underground sprinkler system, improved fencing, and roofing for spectator stands.

Also in 2025, FIFA supported the LFA as it rolled out its Grassroots Football School League at various age levels, which focuses on integrating football into school activities while supporting the overall development of young learners.

FIFA Forward also funded the refurbishment of Liberia’s national stadium, the Stade Antoinette Tubman Stadium, with improvements including new floodlights. It can now host night matches across all age groups, including more women’s matches.

LFA President, Mustapha Raji, said: “For the first time, we have grassroots leagues in our country running from U-12, U-15 (to) U-17. For the first time, we've seen women's football grow in our country, all through the support, to the [innovative introduction] of the FIFA Forward Programme.”

FIFA Football for Schools comes to Pakistan! 🇵🇰

More than 100 children took part in a festival to celebrate the launch of the programme in the Asian Football Confederation nation.

Run by FIFA in collaboration with UNESCO, FIFA Football for Schools seeks to make football more accessible to both boys and girls around the world, and is active in more than 150 countries.

56 Master Trainers representing all regions of Pakistan have been trained and will play a key role in taking FIFA Football for Schools to schools and teachers across the country.
