Today we celebrate the anniversary of Dilys’ birthday. Known for her no-nonsense approach and clear understanding of the work, she began her training with F.M. Alexander and finished with Walter, while also working as F.M.’s secretary at Ashley Place.
Dilys and Walter seamlessly combined their efforts to run the Constructive Teaching Centre, balancing the foundational principles of the work with their unique insights and approaches.
Many of her students, affectionately referred to as her “babes,” fondly recall her guidance as they prepared to transition into their second year with Walter. Her highly skilled hands, especially her fingertips, were the starting point for the training of many aspiring Alexander Technique teachers.
Though quiet, her impact was profound, living on through her students, many of whom will recall her encouraging words, “nicely, nicely.”

Happy Birthday Walter! Thank you for so much inspiration!
Today we celebrate the anniversary of Walter’s birthday; his unique and tireless dedication in preserving the authenticity of the technique he learnt from F. Matthias Alexander; and his generosity, patience and skill training generations of teachers at The Constructive Teaching Centre and beyond.

I feel greatly privileged to stand before you tonight. It is just seventy years ago this
August since I first read ‘Man’s Supreme Inheritance’ and sought to answer the simple question, “What is the Alexander Technique?” Of course, at that time I did not have the experience to understand what I was reading. It was only long afterwards that I realised that Alexander’s writings, like the traveller’s tales of distant lands, can only be truly appreciated when we have made the journey ourselves.
