Skiing in Zermatt for the first time?
The scale of the mountain is part of what makes it exceptional, but it also catches people out.
Zermatt isn’t one central ski bowl. Its three interconnected mountains, but crossing between them takes time. Your starting lift matters, piste colours don’t tell the entire story and skiing to Italy is a great day out and worth making the most of.
The best plan can also change overnight. Wind, snow, visibility and lift openings may make a completely different area the right choice in the morning.
Our advice for Day 1: don’t try to conquer the entire piste map.
Choose one area, understand how it connects, leave time for lunch and finish while everyone is still enjoying themselves.
Save this before your first ski day in Zermatt.
What would you most like explained before arriving?

New to Summit and not quite sure what to book?
The right option depends less on how “good” you think you are and more on what you want from your time in Zermatt.
Choose a private lesson for personal instruction, flexibility and an experience shaped around you or your family.
Choose a group lesson for small-group learning, a sociable atmosphere and steady progress alongside people of a similar level.
Choose a guided day if you already ski confidently and want help discovering the resort, finding the best routes or skiing across to Italy.
Choose an off-piste day if you’re ready to explore beyond the marked pistes while developing your technique and mountain awareness.
And if you still aren’t sure, just ask us. Tell us:
