🥊 Fighting System

Lethwei is based on the art of the “9 Limbs”:
(fists – elbows – knees – shins – head).
Headbutts are allowed, which makes Lethwei unique compared to other combat sports.

⏱️ Duration of the Bout

Typically: 5 rounds × 3 minutes
1-minute rest between each round.

🧤 Equipment

Fighters compete using:

Gloves, or
Hand wraps
Gauze and tape
Mouthguard and basic safety requirements
⚖️ Winning System

The primary way to win is by:

Knockout (KO) only

If no KO occurs:

The result is declared a Draw

In some modern versions:

A limited point system may be applied
🛑 Time-Out Revival

Each fighter is allowed to revive once during the bout (usually up to 2 minutes).
If unable to continue after revival → Loss by KO

🚫 Prohibited Actions
Striking sensitive areas (eyes, back of the head, groin)
Biting, clawing, or unsportsmanlike conduct
Striking after the referee has stopped the bout
🧑‍⚖️ Refereeing
One referee inside the ring
A supervisory committee ensures:
Enforcement of rules
Fighter safety
Proper round timing
🏥 Medical Safety
Medical examination before and after the fight
Mandatory medical team present
The bout is stopped if there is any danger to the fighter
