More to the fact,
Exercise can lead to several changes in red blood cell (RBC) indices, depending on the intensity and duration of the exercise. Short, intense exercise can cause a temporary increase in red blood cell count, hemoglobin (Hb), and hematocrit (Hct), while extended endurance exercise might lead to decreased MCV and hemodilution.


Acute Effects (short, intense exercise): Leads to increased RBC count, Hb, and Hct.
Short bursts of exercise, like a sprint, can lead to a temporary increase in these parameters.

Increased erythropoiesis:
The body may stimulate the production of more red blood cells to meet the increased oxygen demands of the muscles.

Return to normal within 30 minutes:
These changes are generally temporary and return to normal within a short period after the exercise is finished.

Chronic Effects (long-term endurance training):
Leads to increased blood volume.
Endurance training can lead to an increase in plasma volume, resulting in hemodilution (dilution of the blood).

Decreased MCV (Mean Cell Volume):
This can be due to erythrocytic water loss, potentially impacting the oxygen-carrying capacity of red blood cells.

Changes in RBC distribution:
Endurance training may lead to an increase in the proportion of young red blood cells, which are more flexible and have improved oxygen release, as described in a study by the NIH.

While some changes are due to hemodilution, endurance training can also stimulate the production of more red blood cells, potentially leading to increased hemoglobin and hematocrit.
