AFRICAN PARTICIPATION AT INTERNATIONAL MILITARY SAMBO TOURNAMENT IN MOSCOW

The International Military SAMBO Tournament concluded on 17 August 2026 at the International SAMBO Center in Moscow, bringing together 81 military athletes from 18 countries for men's and women's competitions.

The tournament featured a strong African presence, with six African nations Burkina Faso, Djibouti, Mali, Mauritania, Togo and Eswatini participating in the competition. African athletes demonstrated their growing presence in international SAMBO, with Burkina Faso, Mali and Eswatini among the African countries that secured medals.

The event was also attended by Major General Abdullahi Maikano, President of the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA) and CISM Vice-President for Africa, whose presence highlighted the importance of strengthening Africa's engagement in international military sports.

The Moscow tournament represents another important opportunity for African military athletes to gain international experience and for SAMBO to develop further within the African military sports movement. It also contributes to the broader objective of promoting friendship, solidarity and cooperation through sport, in line with the ideals of CISM and OSMA.

The 9TH OSMA General Assembly in Livingstone -Zambia from 12th to 18th April 2026

The 9th OSMA General Assembly of the Organisation of Military Sports just took place in the tourist city of Livingstone in Zambia from the 12th to 18th April 2026 and drew more than 64 delegates from 24 member countries. The deliberations were chaired by Major General Maikano Abdullahi, OSMA President and CISM Vice-President for Africa. Top on the Agenda was the election of the Secretary General of OSMA, which saw Capitaine de Frégate DJENDOLA Pierrre reelected for a four-year mandate with 17 members voting for, 3 against and 1 null. He begins another mandate which will end 20230. The deliberations in this General Assembly led to far-reaching resolutions aimed at strengthening OSMA's presence on the continent and globally. These resolutions are included in the final communiqué sent to all Chief Delegates at the end of the Assembly. CAMFOOT EVALUATION VISIT OF OSMA OFFICIALS TO MALABO
A three-man delegation from the OSMA headquarter comprising of Major General MAIKANO Abdullahi OSMA President, Capitaine de Frégate DJENDOLA Pierre, OSMA Secretary General and Lt-Colonel MARTIAL DALI, head of Technical Sports Département, paid an official visit to the high authorities of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea ahead of the upcoming African Military Football Cup due to take place by November this year in Malabo. The visit was to meet with officials and stakeholder of Equatorial Guinea to access progress in preparation of this important event of the OSMA program of activities. During their stay in Malabo they are schedule to meet with the Minister of Defence, Chief of defence Staff, Minister of Sports and if possible the Vice-President of the Republic. Discussions will be focused on making this event a historical success.

In Mali, the President met with the OSMA Chief Delegate in Mali, Colonel Sega Sissoko, the President of the Olympic Commitée Brigadier General Brahima Diabate and the Chief of Defence Staff.

OSMA PRESIDENT'S WORKING VISIT ACROSS AFRICA

Pushed by the quest to create a remarkable visibility for OSMA among African Member States, the OSMA President and CISM Vice-President for Africa, Major General MAIKANO Abdullahi undertook a series of Working visits across West and East Africa. The Diplomat, after visiting Burkina Faso, also visited Ethiopia, where he was received alongside the CISM President and the CISM Secretary General. This visit marked a significant achievement in the life of OSMA, as the President continues talks with the Ethiopian Authorities for the possible hosting of an OSMA Sporting event, particularly the 3rd African Military Games. From Ethiopia, the President was received in Bamako, Mali, where he visited top military and Civilian officials, in a move to lobby for the support of the Authorities to organise CAMFOOT and also initiate sports cooperation between OSMA and the Malian Armed Forces.

WORKING VISIT OF THE OSMA PRESIDENT TO BURKINA FASO
The OSMA President and CISM Vice-President for Africa Major General Abdullahi Maikano paid a working visit to the Burkina Faso Military and Civilian Authorities in the quest to boost OSMA visibility among African member states, and to lobby for the organisation of one of the most prestigious sporting events of the OSMA calendar of activities, the African Military Football Cup (CAMFOOT).The visit was a smashing success as the OSMA President was received in audience by Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff of the National Armed Forces and a host of the dignitaries of the West African Liaison Office (OLAO).

EASTERN AND SOUTHERN AFRICAN LIAISON OFFFICE (ESALO) GENRAL ASSEMBLY
The OSMA President and CISM Vice-President for Africa, Major General Abdullahi Maikano, attended the ESALO regional general Assembly on invitation from the African Chief Delegate, the Current presidency of Eastern and Southern African Liaison Office. The President was treated as the Guest of Honour of this important meeting whose member states comprise South Africa, Lesotho, Zambia, Mozambique, Botswana, Angola, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Malawi.
During this meeting, discussions were centred on the organisation of the 9th OSMA General Assembly, which was entrusted to Zambia to be hosted early April this year 2026.
