He had already been crowned the stolen base king – but at 42 years old, Rickey Henderson still had a few things left to accomplish.

And on this day in 2001, he signed with the San Diego Padres to continue his Hall of Fame career.

With San Diego, Henderson would record his 3,000th hit and set new all-time records for runs scored and walks.
