Muchas vías en Bogotá y en Colombia en general tienen desniveles. Tengan cuidado al transitar cerca. Son trampas mortales para bicicletas y motos.

🚨 BREAKING: SRAM Eliminates the Front Derailleur the Shift Now Happens Inside the Chainring, Fully Wireless

SRAM has patented a revolutionary front shifting system that completely removes the traditional derailleur from the frame. The new mechanism operates wirelessly within the AXS ecosystem and is fully integrated inside the crankset itself.

The idea isn’t entirely new. Back in 1990, SunTour introduced the Browning Electronic AccuShift Transmission (BEAST), an early version of this concept. Now, SRAM brings that principle back with a far more advanced and refined design.

The company’s first patent application dates back to 2019, and SRAM has renewed its priority rights every year since, showing that this project has been under continuous development.

Here’s how it works: instead of a derailleur moving the chain between chainrings, a small portion of the large chainring slides inward, pushing the chain onto the smaller one. When shifting back up, tiny guiding fins between the two rings engage, lifting and aligning the chain onto the larger ring. Everything runs wirelessly, powered by a battery similar to those used in existing AXS components, and the housing shape even hints at this familiar design.

Unlike the older Browning–SunTour system, SRAM’s patent describes two compact radial mechanisms instead of a large rotating sector. These elements move inward or outward to guide the chain smoothly between rings.

The benefits are clear: no more front derailleur mounted on the frame, simplified assembly with no fine-tuning needed, and a cleaner, more aerodynamic design. It also opens the door to programmable or even automatic gear changes within the AXS system.

As for the release date, there’s still no official confirmation. However, the fact that SRAM has actively maintained and updated this patent for years strongly suggests the company believes in the system’s potential and is fine-tuning the details before bringing it to market.
