: Night surfing & seeing dolphins is definitely up there…but my favorite time was in 2019..When bioluminescent waves appeared at beaches in San Diego County, including Oceanside, due to a red tide of dinoflagellates. This phenomenon occurs when the algae are disturbed by waves or other movement in the water.
