Barnsley Swimming Club was established in 1879. The senior mens Water Polo Team play in the 1st Divi Barnsley Swimming Club welcomes you !

Barnsley Swimming Club is one of the countries oldest established swimming clubs and has been actively encouraging swimming in the Barnsley area since 1879. Barnsley Swimming Club has its own men's Water Polo Team which competes in the Wakefield and District Water Polo League and Yorkshire Cup competitions. The team play home matches and train at the Barnsley Metrodome each Sunday evening at 7pm.

Match Report: Barnsley vs. Morley 'B'

In a high-scoring encounter at the Barnsley Metrodome, the town team delivered a dominant performance to secure a 24-18 victory against Morley 'B'.

Barnsley established control early and maintained a relentless pace throughout all four periods, scoring 5, 7, 7, and 5 goals respectively.

The home teams attack was spearheaded by Danny Rippon (Cap #13), who delivered an outstanding individual performance with a total of 7 goals. He was well-supported by Ben Pacey (Cap #6) and Richard Cooper (Cap #11), both of whom were instrumental in breaking down the Morley defense.

While Barnsley were clinical in front of the goal, they were aggressive in the water, racking up several personal faults. Ben Pacey and Dave Cooper both ended the match with two major fouls, teetering on the edge of exclusion.

Barnsley’s depth and fitness were the deciding factors in this match. While Morley 'B' were very competitive in the opening stages, however Barnsley’s 14-goal surge across the middle two periods effectively sealed the result. Morley's spirits remained high, finding the net twice in the final period, but it wasn't enough to overcome the significant deficit.

Barnsley Water Polo Team edge York City Water Polo Club to lift the Winter League Cup

8 March 2026 – Barnsley Premier Leisure

Barnsley secured the Winter League Cup with a dramatic 7–6 victory over York in a closely fought final at the Barnsley Metrodome.

In a match that swung back and forth throughout, Barnsley’s strong third-quarter comeback proved decisive as they overturned a halftime deficit to claim the title in front of a large home crowd.

York made the brighter start and took control of a tight opening quarter, edging ahead 1–0. The second period saw both teams produced attacking, high-tempo water polo. Barnsley responded with three goals of their own, but York remained clinical in front of goal, scoring four times to hold a 5–3 lead at halftime.

Barnsley’s response in the third quarter proved crucial. Tightening their defence and successfully limiting York’s man-up opportunities, the hosts produced a decisive spell in the third quarter. O. Burkitt struck twice and B. Pacey added another as Barnsley scored three unanswered goals to turn the match around and move 6–5 ahead heading into the final period.

The final quarter was tense. Both sides pushed for the decisive breakthrough. York managed to level the score, however, Barnsley kept their composure in the closing stages and found the crucial goal to seal the Winter League title with a 7-6 victory.

Barnsley’s scoring was led by O. Burkitt and B. Pacey, who both finished with three goals, while R. Cooper added the other.

Barnsley player coach Oliver Burkitt was proud of Barnsley’s resilience and decisive third-quarter performance. Highlighting the town teams determination which proved the difference in a competitive and very entertaining final.
