First of all, do not try to switch it on βjust to check if it still works.β
Saltwater can remain inside the device and continue damaging electronic components even after the outside looks completely dry. Applying power too soon may turn recoverable damage into a serious failure.
Here is what we recommend doing as soon as possible:
REMOVE AND DISCONNECT:
πΈ The main battery
πΈ The internal clock battery
πΈ All connected plugs and connectors
πΈ The antenna and any attached cables
If the device is being handled by a qualified technician, the circuit boards should also be removed and carefully cleaned. Use isopropyl alcohol to clean the printed circuit boards and all connectors.
Before reassembly, allow every component to dry thoroughly and make sure there is no moisture left inside the device.
PLEASE DO NOT:
πΈ Switch the tester on
πΈ Reconnect the main or clock battery
πΈ Connect the device to a charger
πΈ Remove the display
πΈ Wash the tester under running water
πΈ Use solvents
πΈ Use ultrasonic cleaning
πΈ Apply strong mechanical force
πΈ Blow compressed air into the device at high pressure
A standard can of compressed air may be used carefully, but high-pressure workshop equipment can push moisture deeper into connectors and sensitive components.
Even when the tester appears dry, corrosion may already be developing in areas that are difficult to see. We strongly recommend having the device inspected before reconnecting the batteries or applying power.
Acting quickly and resisting the temptation to test the device immediately can significantly improve its chances of recovery.

Summer means vacation season, right? Sure, we take time off too β but our summer schedule is planned to keep things running as smoothly as possible.
While much of the industry goes quiet this time of year, it's business as usual here. Our lab stays active, our sales team remains reachable, and equipment continues to arrive for calibration and repair β like this GMDSS tester currently on Oksana's bench.

One Power Sensor instead of two.
The PS3 universal VHF/MF/HF Power Sensor & VSWR Meter comes standard with the MRTS-7 Pro. Instead of carrying separate sensors for MF/HF and VHF measurements, the surveyor works with a single device covering both ranges:

Every marine radio surveyor and service engineer working with GMDSS radio stations and AIS transponders eventually faces this choice: test through the antenna as a live radiating system, or connect the test instrument directly to the equipment's RF port via cable?
The answer depends on what needs to be verified β and not every method is capable of verifying what it appears to. For a surveyor, this means choosing a method that produces calibrated, documentable results. For a service engineer commissioning a new installation, it means confirming that the equipment and antenna system are working correctly together before the vessel enters service.
Any GMDSS or AIS installation consists of two distinct parts that can degrade independently:
πΈ The equipment itself β the radio or transponder, its transmitter, receiver, DSC controller, and AIS processor
πΈ The antenna system β feeder cable, connectors, splitters, grounding, and the antenna element
A method that evaluates one does not necessarily evaluate the other. This is where many surveys β and post-installation checks β despite appearing complete, leave critical gaps.

From time to time, we receive test equipment for calibration or repair that was packed without enough protection for transportation. Unfortunately, even a small oversight can lead to serious damage during shipping.
For example, we once received a tester sent in for routine calibration. It was bundled together with a heavy metal attenuator in a thin layer of plastic wrap, with no padding inside the box. The attenuator moved around, damaged the tester's display, and crushed the batteries β causing them to leak and corrode the internal components. The tester could not be repaired and had to be replaced.
For our shipping and service team, situations like this are always difficult to see β especially when the device originally arrived in good working condition and only needed calibration...
A few things that make a real difference:
πΈWrap the tester in bubble wrap or other cushioning material
πΈPack heavy accessories such as attenuators separately from the instrument
πΈFill empty space with foam or packing material so nothing can shift inside the box
If you still have the original carrying case, it is usually the safest option β it was designed to keep the instrument secure during transport.
