Dear friends and colleagues,

2020 has been a year like no other. We have all endured major challenges to many aspects of our lives and those of our families, friends and colleagues.

On occasions it has seemed difficult to remember a time before COVID. There are, however, grounds for optimism with the development of several vaccines and the start of vaccination programs in many countries.

Some of you have been able to maintain classes intermittently in the dojo, some in improvised venues or online. Whatever your circumstances and those of your organisation I am confident that in the true spirit of karate-do we can persevere and we can plan with confidence to expect a return to international karate in the second half of 2021.

We believe that it will be possible to stage the 2021 WSKA championships in Liverpool in September and the 2021 ESKA championship in Winterthur, Switzerland in November.

Once more with your help we can all look forward to enjoying the very best of international Shotokan karate competition in the company of friends.

I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and I look forward to working with you once more in 2021.
