Kalia Antoniou Wins Cyprus’ First Gold at Taranto 2026 🇨🇾

Cypriot swimmer Kalia Antoniou has won Cyprus’ first gold medal at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games, retaining her women’s 100m freestyle title.

After recovering from a slightly slower start, Antoniou took the lead at the halfway mark and held off Italy’s Chiara Tarantino in a thrilling finish.

Antoniou touched the wall in 54.60 seconds—just seven hundredths of a second ahead of Tarantino—to secure her second consecutive Mediterranean Games gold in the event following her victory at Oran 2022.
