🧘♂️ Want to become more flexible? Holding a stretch longer is only part of the picture.
Being able to reach further doesn’t automatically mean your muscles have become longer. Your body can adapt in several ways—and strength training has a role too.
Here are three things worth understanding:
🧠 1. Your nervous system plays a part. With regular practice, you can become more comfortable with the sensation of stretching. This increased “stretch tolerance” helps you move further. Changes in tissue stiffness can also contribute.
💪 2. Strength and flexibility can develop together. Strength exercises through a full, comfortable range of movement can improve flexibility while building strength. Think controlled squats, lunges and other movements that challenge you through the range you can manage.
⏳ 3. Consistency matters more than chasing a magic number. A few minutes of regular stretching can help. There’s no single weekly target that guarantees lasting results for everyone—and progress needs continued practice.
🌿 Put it into practice: Before exercise, warm up with active, controlled movements. For dedicated flexibility work, choose a time when you can stretch without rushing. Breathe naturally, build gradually and avoid forcing yourself into pain.
In Yoga, reaching deeper is only one part of progress. Strength, balance and control matter too.
“Yoga is not a competition. Breathe. Feel yourself.”
