SPRINTS VS LONG RUNS: THE BENEFITS FOR A BOXER
I prefer short, explosive track work for boxing: sharp bursts that challenge your speed, power and ability to work hard. But long runs still have their place.
Sometimes a fighter needs to get out of the gym, breathe some fresh air and clear his head. A bit of time alone with his thoughts, away from the pressure of camp, ticket sales and the grouchy boxing trainer! 🥊
Track work brings intensity. Long runs give a fighter space to reset. Both have benefits for a boxer.

FINISH THE SESSION SHARP. PICK UP THE STICKS.

When a fighter’s tired, stick work is a brilliant way to finish the session—and it’s an often-overlooked part of training.
Without gloves, the target is smaller. You can’t just rely on the big bag or pads, where it’s easy to land shots. You have to stay switched on, sharpen your timing, and be precise with every punch.
It’s also a useful option for fighters managing hand injuries, when suitable. Stick work keeps them working on accuracy and focus without finishing on heavy pad shots.
Tired, focused, accurate. That’s how you finish strong. 🥊

Don’t Just Throw Uppercuts and Hooks on the Wall Bag—Learn to Use It Correctly!

Use the wall bag to practise your footwork. Pivot, transition and create angles. Learn to work around your opponent, keep them trapped on the ropes or in the corner, and work them over.

BUILD YOUR FLEXIBILITY FOR BOXING | 3-STAGE LEG STRETCH

Here’s how to perform my three-stage developmental leg stretch: a controlled, progressive way to work on leg flexibility and hip mobility.
The key is communication. When stretching with a partner, use a 1–10 scale to check how strong the stretch feels and adjust as you go. Don’t force the movement or push through sharp pain.
Save this for your next gym mobility session and give it a try—with control.

🥊 FIGHT WEEK. IS READY.

We recently had visiting fighter out here training with us, and he made a great impression. He worked hard, got stuck in with all the lads and gave a real good account of himself.

We worked on some new tactics, ring craft and skills that we hope will give him that extra edge on fight night. He’s in great shape and ready to go.

He came here as a visiting fighter and left as a good friend. We’re looking forward to watching him step into the ring this Friday night.

All the best, Go and do your thing! 👊

DON’T BITE ON THE FAKE JAB! 🥊

A clever boxer can flash a fake jab to make you throw a counter or open up your guard. That’s when they change levels and come in to attack the body.
Learn how to recognise the trap, stay covered and close down your opponent before they can land the next shot. Then turn their setup into your chance to counter.

STOP THE HEAD-TO-BODY DOUBLE JAB 🛑🥊

That head-to-body double jab catches people sleeping.
Don’t just stand there and absorb it. Read the first jab, shut down the second one to the body, then make them pay with a sharp counter.
Simple boxing. Good timing. No freebies.
Save this one and drill it in the gym.

IT’S NOT ALL PRETTY PADWORK.

Padwork is the shop window. It looks good, it shows skill, timing and sharpness — but it plays a small part in the bigger picture.
Behind that door is the real work: hard sparring, brutal circuits, roadwork, sprints, track sessions, dieting properly, recovery, discipline and turning up when you don’t feel like it.
It’s learning styles, solving problems, sharpening the little details and mastering the tricks of the trade. Every day, fighters and coaches are still learning.

The pads look good on camera. The grind is what makes the fighter.

🥊 STUCK ON THE ROPES? SET THE TRAP. LAND THE COUNTERS. GET OUT.

Being backed onto the ropes doesn’t mean you have to stay there and take punishment.
In this video, I show how to stay composed, use your defence to draw the opponent into a trap, fire back with counter combinations and create the opening you need to escape the ropes.
Don’t panic. Don’t cover up and wait. Set the trap, punish the mistake and get yourself back into space.

🥊 DON’T JUST BLOCK THE PUNCH — TAKE AWAY THE NEXT ONE

Three simple defensive blocks that do more than stop the first shot.
Each one puts you outside your opponent’s arms, closes their position and takes away their ability to fire the second punch.
Good defence shouldn’t just protect you — it should put you in control.
