A little piece of our studio practice, now yours to take home. 🤍

Our new 30-minute Vinyasa Flow is now available on YouTube.
-> Comment "Vinyasa" to get your link 😘

This practice grew from the flows we explored together at MarDiSol throughout September — moving from a gentle warm-up into Sun Salutations, Side Plank variations, Extended Side Angle and Triangle variations, before slowly coming back down to rest. 😇

A practice for strength, openness and mindful movement, with the breath guiding the way from one shape into the next.
Roll out your mat, give yourself 30 minutes, and move with me. 🤍

Move with your breath. Make the practice your own.

Ashtanga, one step at a time. 🤍

Our Friendly Foundations practice is a gentle introduction to Ashtanga Yoga, a space to explore the foundations of the Primary Series without feeling that you need to already know the sequence or be able to do every pose.

We work with approximately a Quarter of the Primary Series each class, taking our time to explore the postures one by one, understand their foundations, and find variations that make sense for the body in front of us.

But Ashtanga is more than a sequence of asanas.
Throughout the practice, we begin bringing together asana, pranayama and drishti ( movement, breath and focused gaze), allowing the physical practice to gradually become a practice of attention. 🧠

And as the movement settles, we make space for something quieter: dharana, concentration, and dhyana, meditation. 🧘‍♀️

You don't need to be flexible.
You don't need to know the sequence.
And you don't need previous Ashtanga experience.

Just come with curiosity and a willingness to practise. 🤍

Sometimes that means breathing through a challenging posture.
Sometimes it means accepting that your arm no longer belongs to you because the studio’s Master Yogi has claimed it. 🐈‍⬛🤭

Yoga asks us to meet each moment with presence, patience and a little softness, even when the moment has claws. 🤣

Swipe to see the philosophy in practice. →

What if the breath led the movement? 🌬🦋

In yoga, it can be easy to focus on where we're going, be it the next pose, the next transition, the shape we're trying to create.

But what happens when we allow the breath to set the rhythm instead? 🌊

We listen first.
Then we move.

This is something we've been exploring at MarDiSol Yoga allowing breath, movement and attention to become part of the same experience.

Sometimes the movement becomes slower.
Sometimes we pause.
Sometimes less is enough.

Listen to its rhythm.
Let the body follow.
Let the breath lead.

What are we really practising when we practise Ujjayi? 🌬🦋

At first, we may notice the sound.
That soft, steady rhythm accompanying the practice.

But with time, Ujjayi can become something more than a breathing technique. It can become a place for our attention to return to.

We begin to listen.
To notice the rhythm of the breath.
To recognise when it becomes rushed or strained.

And gradually, rather than simply moving and breathing, we explore what it feels like to let breath and movement become part of the same experience.

This is something we've been exploring in our classes at MarDiSol this month. Returning to the foundations and giving ourselves time to notice what can easily get lost when we're focused only on the shapes.

The goal isn't to create the loudest breath or the “perfect” Ujjayi.
It is another opportunity to practise attention.

And perhaps that's why we keep returning to the breath: it gives us something that is always here to come back to.

Do you practise Ujjayi? What do you notice when you bring more attention to your breath?

Save this post if you'd like to return to it during your practice. 🤍

The basics are not something we leave behind as our practice grows.

We return to them because they give us something familiar enough to begin noticing more.

The quality of the breath.
Where we hold unnecessary tension.
How we place our hands and feet.
Whether we are moving with attention or simply moving from memory.

The movement may look the same, but we are not the same every time we meet it.

This September at MarDiSol, we’ve been returning to some of the foundations of our practice; breath, familiar movements and simple transitions, not as a way of going backwards, but as an opportunity to experience them with a little more awareness.

Same breath.
Same movement.
A different experience.

The moments before movement are yoga too. 🧘‍♀️

At the beginning of each class at MarDiSol, we take a few minutes to arrive.

We notice the sounds around us.
The temperature of the room.
The feeling of the body touching the mat.
The movement of the breath.

We don’t try to reject these sensations. We observe them and then, little by little, allow our attention to return inward.

This is an introduction to Pratyahara, the fifth limb of yoga.

In Yoga Sutras 2.54–2.55, Patanjali describes Pratyahara as the senses releasing their automatic pull towards external objects and beginning to follow the inward direction of the mind. From this develops greater mastery over where our attention goes.

The world does not have to become completely silent.

Sounds can remain.
Sensations can remain.
Thoughts can arise.

The practice is learning that our attention does not have to follow every one of them.

In a world that is constantly asking us to look, listen, respond and consume, this quiet skill becomes deeply practical.

Sometimes Pratyahara can begin with something very small:

• drinking your tea without your phone
• walking without headphones
• pausing the background noise
• closing your eyes and following three breaths

Arrive. Notice. Return.

That is why we begin this way. 🤍

Which of your senses most easily carries your attention away?

Awareness is the doorway

The senses are not the problem. They are simply doing what they were designed to do.

They notice sound, light, movement, touch and temperature. Pratyahara does not ask us to fight or switch them off.

First, we observe.

Can I hear a sound without following it?
Can I feel a sensation without immediately reacting?
Can I notice what is around me and still return to my breath?

Awareness comes before withdrawal. 🪷

Pratyahara is often described as a bridge.

In the eight limbs of yoga, it sits between Pranayama, the practice of working consciously with the breath, and Dharana, the practice of concentration.

🧘‍♀️ Happy International Yoga Day

Yoga has taught me that sometimes the most meaningful practice is not doing more, but simply pausing.

In a world that constantly asks us to move faster, achieve more, and stay connected, taking a few conscious breaths can be a powerful act of self-care.

To celebrate this day, I'd like to offer a small gift to this community: a free 10-minute guided meditation for Stress Relief & Gratitude.🙏

Whether you practice yoga every day or are simply in need of a quiet moment, I hope this meditation helps you slow down, reconnect, and return to yourself.

✨ Link in bio ✨ Save it for later ✨ Share it with someone who may need a moment of calm today

Wishing you peace, presence, and gratitude🤍

With love,
Maria
