Alireza Firouzja is returning to Prague! ♟️🔥

In 2020, at just 16 years old, he conquered the Prague International Chess Festival Masters and claimed his first major international title, winning a dramatic blitz playoff.

Now, the French-Iranian star is coming back to fight for the trophy once again. 🏆 The first name of 9th edition is out and we're just getting started. Welcome back to Prague, Alireza!

🇨🇿 Alireza Firouzja se vrací do Prahy! ♟️🔥

V roce 2020 v pouhých 16 letech ovládl Masters turnaj Pražského šachového festivalu a získal svůj první velký mezinárodní titul po dramatickém vítězství v play-off.

Nyní je francouzsko-íránská šachová hvězda zpět, aby znovu zabojovala o trofej. 🏆 První jméno 9. ročníku je venku a to rozhodně nekončíme! Vítej zpět v Praze, Alirezo!

🌍♟️ The biggest celebration of chess has begun!

The 46th Chess Olympiad began in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Until September 27, national teams from around the world will compete.

The event features plenty of familiar faces from the Prague International Chess Festival, including this year’s Masters winner Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Vincent Keymer and many more. 🇺🇿✨

There is also a strong PICF presence in the Czech team. 🇨🇿 Over the years, we have seen all of the players on the men’s national team compete in either the Masters or Challengers. The lineup includes Czech No. 1 Thai Dai Van Nguyen, David Navara and young talent Václav Fiňek, this year’s Challengers winner. The team is captained by festival director Petr Boleslav. Fingers crossed!🤞🍀

🇨🇿 Začíná největší šachový svátek!

V uzbeckém Samarkandu včera odstartovala 46. šachová olympiáda. Do 27. září se zde utkají reprezentace z celého světa v 11 kolech týmové soutěže.🔥

Na startu nechybí ani řada hráčů, které známe z Pražského šachového festivalu – včetně letošního vítěze Masters Nodirbeka Abdusattorova, Vincenta Keymera a dalších. 🇺🇿✨

A nechybí ani výrazná PICF stopa v českém týmu. 🇨🇿 Hráče mužské reprezentace jsme v průběhu let mohli vídat na startovních listinách Masters i Challengers – nechybí česká jednička Thai Dai Van Nguyen, David Navara ani mladý talent a letošní vítěz Challengers Václav Fiňek. Kapitánem týmu je navíc ředitel festivalu Petr Boleslav. Držíme palce!🤞🍀

Chessboxing – a combination of two disciplines that may seem completely different at first glance: chess and boxing. This relatively new sport has also made its way to the Czech Republic, thanks to CBX Czechia. The gala evening at Grand Hotel International Prague was attended by the PICF team as well.

The evening featured several exciting matchups. Among the fighters was David Hampl, who has won a silver and a bronze medal at the World Championships, as well as three-time chessboxing world champion Jules-Aloïs Julien. 🏆

Thank you to CBX Czechia for organizing this fantastic event – we’re looking forward to more great collaborations! 🤝🥊♟️

Ján Plachetka has left us. ♟️🕯️ A remarkable figure of Czechoslovak and Slovak chess, and a great friend of our festival, is gone. Ján Plachetka was not only an outstanding chess player, but also a humble and kind-hearted person.

He visited the Prague Chess Festival several times, and it was always an honor to meet him. In 2021, he also shared heartfelt memories of his friend Luboš Kaválek, whose legacy was very close to his heart.

We will remember not only his chess achievements, but above all his humanity, kindness, and warm relationship with the people around the game.

May he rest in peace.
