South Sudan Women Ready for Historic Zone V Volleyball Qualifiers in Kampala

The inaugural CAVB African Nations Championship Zone V Qualifiers are underway in Kampala, Uganda, bringing together some of East Africa's top volleyball nations in a crucial tournament that serves as a gateway to the 2026 African Nations Championship and the road toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Hosted at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium from May 31 to June 4, the competition features teams from Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan, Burundi, and Tanzania. While Kenya and Tanzania are competing only in the men's category, South Sudan is among the three nations fielding both men's and women's teams, highlighting the country's growing commitment to volleyball development.

The women's competition features Uganda, Burundi, and South Sudan, while the men's event includes Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, South Sudan, and Tanzania. Matches will be played in a round-robin format, with each team battling for the sole qualification slot available for the African Nations Championship finals later this year.

For the South Sudan Women's National Volleyball Team, the tournament represents a significant opportunity to showcase their progress on the regional stage. Competing against established sides such as Uganda and Burundi, the South Sudanese women will be looking to gain valuable international experience while fighting for a historic qualification to the continental championship.

Speaking during the technical meeting, CAVB Zone V President Sadik Nasiwu noted that Zone V is the largest volleyball zone in Africa, comprising 12 countries, and expressed optimism about securing additional qualification slots in future editions.

The champions of each of Africa's six zones will earn automatic qualification to the African Nations Volleyball Championship 2026, where they will join host nations and other qualified teams to complete a 16-team field in both the men's and women's categories. The women's championship will be hosted in Nairobi, while the men's tournament will take place in Kinshasa.
