House Dance is a dance style that stems from New York’s clubbing culture of the 80s.
As House clubs hosted dancers coming from very different backgrounds, House Dance contains influences that derive from many different styles. Some examples are african dances, jazz, capoeira, salsa, breaking, tap-dance, rollerskating and more.

American clubbing culture is rich of local underground freestyle dance scenes, New York became famous worldwide for two reasons.
The first is that many dancers from different countries travelled there and learnt the local dances, teaching them in their native country.
The second is that the House Dance pioneers from New York travelled around the globe to share their knowledge about House (among other dance styles).
Some of these dancers are Brian “Footwork” Green, Caleaf Sellers, Ejoe Wilson, Tony MacGregor, Marjory Smart, “Brooklyn” Terry Wright, Shannon Mabra, Daniel E Kelly (aka Future), Shannon Selby (aka Shan S), Tony “Sekou” Williams.

Nowadays a lot of new generation's dancers learn House Dance just as intricate footwork, disconnected from the clubbing scene. The result is that in many clubs there aren't any House Dancers, which are more often found in dance classes and specific dance events.

In "Hip Hop Seeds" you will learn the foundations of House Dance as well as how they relate to the clubbing culture and how you can perform them to find freedom.

5 STYLES - What is your favorite dance style?
For a long time Breaking, Locking, Popping, Hip Hop and House Dance have been the biggest influences in the Street and Clubbing dance culture. Most of what you see on social media, TV or other sources stems in some way from these styles.
In the "Hip Hop Seeds" dance program you will learn the foundations of the 5 styles, their history, how they are connected and how to use them in your dance.

Originally coming from very different dance contexts, all these styles are nowadays under the bigger umbrella of Hip Hop Culture. Thanks to the pioneering work in the 80s of American crews like Moptop, Elite Force, Misfits as well as other independent dancers, the fusion, exposition and transmission of these styles hit a global scale.

Nowadays, after almost 50 years since the birth of Hip Hop culture in the Bronx, there can be a lot of confusion over terminology and origins. Over the next posts we'll keep sharing some of the information about the role of the 5 styles in the programs, their roots and what makes them essential to the next generation of artists.

Hip Hop Seeds is a 9 months full time dance education with a closed group of participants that focuses on five dance styles: Hip Hop, House Dance, Breaking, Popping and Locking.
Personal feedback will be given throughout the year.
The program values individuality, growth, physical and mental health as well as freedom of expression.

We are looking for students who have a strong passion for dance and arts, especially for Hip Hop culture.
This program is for those of you who want to dive deep into these styles and want to lay the foundation for a career in dance.
