I’m very happy to welcome my dear mentor Sandy Shimoda from back to Core Pilates as a guest teacher on May 2nd.
I’m especially happy to introduce her to those who may know her only from or from her online sessions—and haven’t yet experienced her work live.
In these 90 minutes live-online, we’ll work together through the Contrology method—rooted in the work of Joseph Pilates and carried forward through the lineage of .
Sandy teaches with clarity and precision, always close to the movement. She has a rare ability to notice the small details that change everything—and to make them immediately usable.
What truly sets her apart is how she combines deep, embodied experience with a thoughtful way of breaking down the method and the lifestyle around it. She makes Contrology accessible without diluting it—so both experienced teachers and those newer to the work can find a real, practical entry point.

Our Mission
At Core Pilates by Simone Hörster, we are committed to delivering high-quality education in the field of Contrology (Pilates) and to strengthening the visibility of the traditional method. Our goal is to be a recognised training institute where talented teachers grow, where graduates stand out as experts, and where a supportive professional network continues to evolve. Our participants are at the heart of everything we do. Through accredited training and continuing education, we prepare them for a successful career in the health and movement sector and support them in entering the workforce. We welcome healthy individuals of all ages, especially career changers from related fields and Pilates teachers seeking to update their skills. Our programs enable students to teach diverse groups with empathy, grounded in their own embodied practice, and to inspire a more agile lifestyle. With the help of the Qualifizierungschancengesetz, we aim to connect selected students with partner studios. Our studio also offers optional project-based internships to build practical confidence. The industry continues to grow, and the demand for well-trained Contrology teachers is high. With 20+ years of experience, we are proud that alumni often rely on our training for their teams. We value respectful, empathetic collaboration and view emerging trends and renewed interest in traditional Contrology as opportunities for development. Continuous learning and open exchange drive our quality standards. The mission statement is reviewed annually by management to ensure ongoing improvement.

Happy Easter from Core Pilates – and a little reminder to myself.
Germany’s top-selling chocolate holiday is here – and yes, I love a good bunny too.
But this year, I’m choosing more clarity, less sugar.
More breath, less rush.
More purpose, less packaging.
Joseph Pilates believed in conscious living – in moving with intention, eating with awareness, and treating the body like a temple.
(Yes, he also smoked ci**rs. No one’s perfect. But he trained daily into his 80s and believed in cold showers and natural living – we get the point.)
So instead of just treating myself, I’m giving something back.
Every euro not spent on chocolate becomes a gesture of care.
This year, donations go to Hebammen für Deutschland e.V.,
an initiative working to preserve and strengthen individual, safe, and accessible midwifery care across the country.

Let this season be one of renewal –
for body, mind, and how we care for others.
Stay strong. Stay kind. Stay centered.
Love,
Simone | Core Pilates

Contrology Workout
At our studio, there is one main group format: Contrology Workout.
It always stays the same — the structure is clear, the roles are clear.
Within the Contrology Workout, there are different spots, happening at the same time:
• Intro spots for first- and second-timers
• Spots for regular, independent practitioners
• Online spots for professionals, or autonomous athletes training from their studio, home or while traveling
Most of the time, all of this happens in one shared session.
Occasionally, formats are offered separately — but this is the exception.
We usually work with a maximum of 8 participants total.
For example:
4 people in the studio (3 independent practitioners and 1 newcomer)
plus 4 participants joining online.
This structure allows us to offer more sessions, more flexibility, and a fair price-performance balance — without compromising the quality of the work.
What is an Intro?
Intro spots are reserved for new clients.
You are introduced to the original Contrology repertoire on the Reformer and on the Mat plus some this that is only for you in the end.
You train in the same room as regular practitioners.
You see how they work independently.
You experience what this practice is about.
After the Intro, you decide whether this way of working is right for you.
Whether you are ready to take responsibility and work proactively toward your goals — with the strings in your own hands.
What is a Contrology Workout?
In a Contrology Workout, you work independently within a structured sequence, under supervision.
We observe.
We keep it safe.
We support your process with subtle, precise feedback.
We know your name because you show up regularly.
We know your challenges.
We choose the exercises that move you forward.
And we notice your progress — even the small steps.
Our aim is to support you in more, trusting your , and learning through -efficacy.
Be clear about one thing:
This is not entertainment.
It is work.
And it works.

Traditional Pilates — as it was passed on to me
From January 23–25, 2026, we meet in studio in Berlin-Kreuzberg or live online for a 17-hour workshop (including breaks) for certified Pilates teachers.
This workshop is rooted in , as it was passed on to me by .
We’ll work in an format, guided by your questions and practical experience.
This weekend is intended as a meeting of people who are friendly and collegial in spirit. Everyone is welcome who would like to be part of this and brings a genuine interest in the work, exchange, and . It’s about shared practice, respectful dialogue, and learning from one another.
You’ll have the opportunity to
– take part in a free Contrology workout,
– teach within the open studio setting,
– explore selected traditional Pushes & Pulls,
– and work with topics such as levels and the systematic development of the exercises.
Some questions don’t have fixed answers — they are explored through practice, observation, and dialogue.
Workshop fee: €650 for the full weekend (including taxes).
Some participants are arriving already on Thursday. We are considering an informal community dinner on one of the evenings (Thursday, Friday, or Saturday). Participation would be optional and at individual expense.
Accommodation prices in Berlin are generally quite reasonable at this time of year.
Feel free to reach out if you’d like more information about the workshop or support with planning and organization.

At the beginning of a new year, many people look for .
I look for .
In our studio, I see you. Every day.
Not once. Not occasionally. But with . Over time, we grow together.
When you come regularly, we know your name.
We remember your body, your patterns, your progress.
This consistency allows us to give deeper, more precise feedback — and that’s what leads to noticeable, felt results.
This isn’t just about building a movement habit.
It’s about building relationships — with your body, and with the people you move alongside. You recognize each other, mirror one another, and celebrate progress together.
This is how Joseph Pilates ran his studio — the same people, returning again and again.
This is the spirit of .
Our Tribe isn’t built on quick results.
It’s built on continuity, shared experience, and a lifestyle that slowly shifts because the environment supports it.
The Contrology Lifestyle Card is your entry into this culture — one month, unlimited group sessions, live online or in our Berlin-Kreuzberg studio.
If you show up consistently, we’ll talk about how to continue together.
This isn’t about buying a result.
It’s about becoming part of something that lasts.

Over time, I’ve noticed something in my own daily practice.
What I live as a doesn’t stay separate from the space around me.
The way I move, return to the work, deal with frustration, start again — it settles into the room.
For me, began as something I chose to do.
Over the years, it became something I simply live.
Less a decision, more a way of organizing myself — physically and mentally.
When are around, this becomes especially visible.
They don’t experience it as a concept or a choice.
They experience it as atmosphere.
They don’t sit and watch.
They move around, interrupt, test boundaries, lose interest, come back.
And somewhere in between, movement becomes familiar.
Not because I explain it.
But because it’s there.
Some days the work flows, some days it doesn’t.
I still return to it.
That is what they see.
Touch, effort, focus, correction, rest — all of it happens quietly, without instruction.
What starts as my personal lifestyle slowly becomes part of the shared space.
Whether you call that or lifestyle almost feels secondary to me.
What matters is that it’s lived, not taught.
And that, over time, it shapes how a room feels.
How bodies relate.
How effort and rest coexist.
For me, that’s Contrology beyond the exercises.
