Do you need to sit cross legged in a calm and peaceful place to cultivate mindfulness?

After having narrowed down the terms movement and meditation in part one of the series “movement is not meditation” we will now take a closer look at ways to cultivate mindfulness.

Short recab: Individual mindfulness is a type of awareness characterized by the four processes of defusion/distance, acceptance, self-as-context, and contact with the here and now.

This state of awareness can be cultivated and induced through a variety of practices, interventions and even circumstances. Meditation, informal practice such as washing the dishes or moving around, metaphors, and certain types of interaction and relationships can help becoming more mindful.

Judging from the academic literature we can not say however whether or not movement as an informal practice has significant effects on state mindfulness. A combination of the various forms of practices, interventions and circumstances are likely to be beneficial, even though exact doses cannot be prescribed. Read the full write up in my bio.

Parkour could potential contribute in positive or negative ways to the four central processes of mindfulness. We will look at this in detail in the final part of this series.

NEW PARKOUR COURSE IN BERLIN - BACK TO BASICS (7.6.-5.7.)

Das Training draußen in Gruppen ist wieder erlaubt. Ich starte einen vierwöchigen Kurs mit dem Thema “Back to Basics”. In 4 Sessions beschäftigen wir uns mit 4 Leitprinzipien des Parkour Trainings. Ziel ist es ein starkes Fundament für das eigene Training zu schaffen. Der Kurs ist offen für alle Könnensstufen. Wir werden uns mit den Themen

Präzision und Balance;

Kraft und Explosivität;

Flow und Kreativität;

Und Challenges, Risiko und Sicherheit beschäftigen.

Der Fokus liegt weniger auch einzelnen Techniken, sondern auf einer Mischung aus Input, Übungen, Challenges, Feedback und Inspiration, um sich grundlegenden Prinzipien des Trainings und der eigenen Entwicklung anzunähern. 

Der Kurs kann dir neue Perspektiven eröffnen, neue Möglichkeiten aufzeigen, alte Muster überprüfen, dich herausfordern und natürlich viel Spaß machen.

Training outside in groups is allowed again. I am starting a four week course with the theme "Back to Basics". In 4 sessions we will deal with 4 guiding principles of parkour training. The goal is to create a strong foundation for your own training. The course is open to all skill levels. We will deal with the topics

Precision and balance;

Strength and explosiveness;

Flow and creativity;

And Challenges, Risk and Safety.

The focus is less on single techniques, but on a mixture of input, exercises, challenges, feedback and inspiration to approach basic principles of training and self-development.

The course can give you new perspectives, show you new possibilities, check old patterns, challenge you and of course be a lot of fun.

More rail flow. This was probably the hardest run to complete. Took me several sessions to break the first arm jump and then again the btwist variation at the end.

Jedes work-out braucht ein work-in. Ohne eine regenerative Praxis fährt sich jede Bewegungspraxis gegen die Wand. Aber auch wenn es um persönliche Entwicklung geht, sind etwa Achtsamkeitsmeditation oder andere kontemplative Übungen sehr wichtig.

Metropolis Parkour is a platform to practice, research and teach Parkour run by Paul van Kaldenkerken.

The goal of Metropolis Parkour is to understand the art at its deepest levels, develop the practice further and share this complex understanding with interested and curious souls.

Parkour develops a strond connection between body, mind and the environment. You discover how to view obstacles as opportunities and challenges and how to face fear, pressure and difficulty in a solution-focused way. Parkour is a physical tool for personal development.
