Last January, I decided that 2016 would be the year that I will run a marathon. The plan was to run a 10K in Spring, followed by a half-marathon in the Summer and this would be topped off by a marathon in Autumn/ Winter. The 10K was a doddle, but it still took about 6 weeks of training. The summer half marathon goal was accomplished but it was slightly hampered by a bout of the infamous runner's knee. I first came across chia seeds in Christopher McDougall's ode to the joys of running "Born to Run". The book is a celebration of the greatest runners on the planet, the Tarahumara tribe, of Mexico's Copper Canyons. The Tarahumara run massive distances of 100KM+ for fun and eat a mostly plant based diet, with one of the staples being chia seeds. [ 253 more words. ]

Hill training is one of the most challenging and beneficial types of training that you can do. Incorporating 1-2 hill sessions per week will improve your race times, strength, speed and aerobic capacity. If you are a member of a gym then you can program hill training into treadmill and train hills without having to brave the elements. A treadmill is a very effective way to get your weekly hill training fix, especially if you live in a flat city like Berlin. [ 676 more words. ]

Berlin is, without a doubt, one of the flattest cities in Europe. If you are a long distance runner then you will more than likely fall into one of two categories. You either run for fun and to stay fit or you run because you are training for a race. If you are training for a race then you should be incorporating hills into your running schedule. Peanut butter not only tastes great but it also has lots of health benefits. The oil, nutty spread is a nutrition bomb containing potassium to help repair your tired muscles, magnesium for your weary bones, vitamin B6 for your immune system, and it contains the powerful antioxidant vitamin E. The Oxford dictionary describes nutrition as "The process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth". So why is it that most of what we eat is bad for our health and the only thing that is growing is the number of sick and unhealthy people?
