Attention US Citizen Abroad! There is finally some action on changing US tax law to your benefit. Congressman Darin LaHood, house committee member on Ways and Mean, just introduced a bill, the Residence-Based Taxation for Americans Abroad Act. The US is currently the only major country taxing their citizens based on citizenship. This means that most Americans must currently file a US tax return regardless of where they live.

Many Americans abroad often end up not even owing any US tax because of exclusions and tax credits but have to file regardless or else could face severe penalties.

There is some bipartisan support in Congress and president-elect Trump said during his election campaign that he would support it. So, chances are better than ever that relief will finally come.
