The 19 year old Indian player will join the FC St. Pauli chess team

Pranav Venkatesh became the 2025 World Junior Chess Champion and recently made headlines by qualifying for the 2027 FIDE Freestyle Chess World Championship.

Pranav V says: „I’m proud that FC St. Pauli is my first club ever in Germany. I like their ambition, and their club values. Together we can achieve great things.“

🔥 Richard Rapport joins FC St. Pauli Chess 🔥

♟️One of the most exciting players in the chess world, known for his creative and unconventional playing style will be joining FC St. Pauli Chess starting with the upcoming Bundesliga season. Richard is the current #21 in the FIDE world rankings, and will be joining us from long-term German team champions Baden Baden.

Oliver von Wersch, FC St. Pauli Chess says:

2 team points and an incredible 5th position in the league - now only the final round in Berlin is outstanding to complete this season.

Now it is our time to visit our friends in Norway - a fun and chess filled weekend ahead

The perfect weekend doesn’t exi- ⁉️

The team won both matches (Sunday with an incredible unbeaten 6-2 score against Solingen!), is now 5th in the standings and has secured its place in the first league next season! 🥳 On top of that our second team also won on Sunday and our football colleagues won a hugely important game on Saturday! 🙌

Away from the board we received a lovely visit from our friends from Norway (more about that in another post soon…) and our Danish star Mads Andersen celebrated his birthday on Sunday - all the best once again from all of us! 🎈

Many thanks as always to all our members and volunteers without whom none of this would be possible! It was truly a wonderful weekend all round at our stunning home venue - the St. Pauli Millerntor Stadium! 💫
