2022, ich hab mich mal umgeschaut!

Du warst besonders, irgendwie anders, weniger leicht und doch ganz wunderbar mit vielen tollen Momenten, Begegnungen und Ereignissen. Du hast mich aus der Komfortzone gebracht und mich – nicht nur dadurch – ordentlich wachsen lassen. Danke dir!

Wie spät ist es?
Heute genau ein halbes Jahr vorm Ironman Hamburg 2023!

This week the dream, the motivation and for a few of us a lifetime goal - and I doesn´t want to be theatrical with this - was killed with the announcement that the Ironman World Championship will split the woman’s and man’s race to two different locations rotating from one year to another. One of them will still be Hawaii and the other one will be announced in January, but it looks like it will be Nice (France) for the next two years. Starting with just the women on the 14th of October 2023.

Twenty years ago I started for the first time in Hawaii and I thought this would be a once in a lifetime thing. It was in the youngest agegroup (AG). Next AG it worked out again. After this I looked after the age and define the target to try it in every AG. Until now it worked out five times. And I´m making another attempt at the Ironman Hamburg next year. But do I want it under these conditions? There will be 80 qualifying spots just for the women next year in Hamburg. 2022 there were 45 slots for man and woman together!!! Ironman wants to bring more woman to this sport. But is it the right thing to motivate women to start long distance triathlon with the chance to qualify for a WC? In my opinion it will just bring less good athletes with enough money for the trip in the middle of the pacific to the qualifying races. All my qualifying slots I finished on the podium in my age group. We don´t want it easy! There are less woman in this sport so there should be less woman at the WC too. Don´t get me wrong I would love to see more women in triathlon, but I want to see the best at WC. I don´t want to hear: “So you just have to finish in Hamburg and can go to the WC.” With this step a female qualification slot will lose his value. I want the high standard and I know I´m not alone. Also it´s the opinion from a lot of women with no chance to go to Hawaii with the old slot allocation numbers. Don´t make it easy make it a world championship race!

Staying healthy / getting stronger / prioritize my own training a bit more to get a few training kilometers in / balancing family, friends and business / qualify for Kona for the 6th time.

Enjoying the journey is no goal, it’s guaranteed ;-)!

4x HAWAII 2023

Für diese vier manusports-Athleten geht es morgen und Samstag beim Ironman Hawaii an den Start. Ich bin so dankbar dafür diese Vier – genauso wie meine anderen Athleten – auf dem Weg zu ihren Zielen begleiten zu dürfen. Dabei geht es um so viel mehr als Trainingsprogramme, Zahlen, Daten und Fakten. Es geht um Schweiß, Tränen und jede Menge Glücksgefühle. Es geht um Herausforderungen im Alltag das Training unter zu bringen, Austausch, Potential zu entdecken, Balanceakte für die Gesundheit, Aufstehen nach Rückschlägen, Möglichkeiten und Lösungen finden, neu justieren, Fokus finden und halten. Es geht um Planung, Umdenken, Prozesse, Optimierung und Weiterentwicklung. Es geht um das Ganze, es geht um die Menschen – und ich darf das meinen Job nennen.
Ihr seid startbereit und ich freu mich auf zwei Nächte mit euch „gemeinsam" auf Big Island! Alle vier sind zum ersten Mal auf Hawaii und ich bin mir sicher, dass die individuellen Geschichten, die am Renntag geschrieben werden, unvergesslich sein werden. Auf dass ihr eure persönliche Geschichte mit einem dicken Grinsen im Herzen tragen werdet.

OFF SEASON IS OVER

While soaking up all the Kona spam for a few of my athletes and myself the Off Season is over and the preparation for another long distance season starts today. Let’s see how far we will come in 34 weeks till Ironman Hamburg.
