Munich – Quo Vadis? Surfing in the city centre used to be part of the local culture. It was loved by residents, tourists and politicians alike. Now, however, the survival of this culture depends on institutions such as , which seem to be unfamiliar with the concepts of goodwill and joie de vivre. Unfortunately, German authorities are known for their overregulation, which leaves citizens with fewer and fewer freedoms. Perhaps only decisive action by courageous politicians such as could quickly set things right.

For more than 30 years, the Munich surfing community organized surfing on the Eisbach itself. This ensured that a good wave was created and that only experienced surfers used the wave. However, regulations and interventions by the administration that were not agreed upon with the surfers initially made the wave worse and more dangerous, and ultimately unsurfable.
