UEFA Champions League Man Of The Match : David Alaba

19/09/2013

Manuel Neuer:

"I am very satisfied. We started pretty well with David's free kick. That was a real boost and we continued in the same manner after the opener. They never troubled us and we got a great win."

"It's never easy to record a comfortable win in your first Champions League game of the season, yet we managed to do just that, so we have every reason to be pleased.

"It's never easy to play against an opponent that you don't really know. You know what to expect if we'd faced Manchester City, for example. Even though CSKA are the Russian champions and cup winners, they're still a bit of an unknown quantity.

"We did a good job against them, though."

It was a perfect response from Bayern to criticism. I was dilighted to see Bayern respond to criticism of their style of play with a 3-0 victory over CSKA Moscow.Goals by Alaba, Mandzukic and Robben sealed a convincing win as Bayern opened their Group D campaign at Allianz Arena with the perfect riposte to suggestions their football had been “lacklustre”.

Report Card of the Match: FC Bayern Munich vs. CSKA Moscow, UEFA Champions League 2013-14
Bayern Munich begin their quest to become the first side to retain the Champions League title with a 3-0 win over CSKA Moscow.
Schweinsteiger started on the bench again as Bayern were without Gotze, Martinez and Alcantara, all out due to injury problems as the titles holder warded off the challenge from the Russian Champions with ease. Alaba got them off to a flying start with a free-kick in the 4th minute with Mandžukić burying a header in the bottom corner in the 41st minute. Robben added a third in the 68th minute to give the hosts a three goal lead which stayed that way.
