I was dilighted to see Bayern respond to criticism of their style of play with a 3-0 victory over CSKA Moscow.Goals by Alaba, Mandzukic and Robben sealed a convincing win as Bayern opened their Group D campaign at Allianz Arena with the perfect riposte to suggestions their football had been “lacklustre”.

Bayern Munich begin their quest to become the first side to retain the Champions League title with a 3-0 win over CSKA Moscow.
Schweinsteiger started on the bench again as Bayern were without Gotze, Martinez and Alcantara, all out due to injury problems as the titles holder warded off the challenge from the Russian Champions with ease. Alaba got them off to a flying start with a free-kick in the 4th minute with Mandžukić burying a header in the bottom corner in the 41st minute. Robben added a third in the 68th minute to give the hosts a three goal lead which stayed that way.
