Second round of highlights from our last training before Christmas - this time experimenting with the heavy Retiarius setup.
Ludus Versulatius

Some footage of our Murmillo vs. Provocatrix sparring in full gear. Good defensive shieldwork and distance management by the Provocatrix.
Second part of the Thraex vs. Murmillo full gear sparring. This time a little more active, after the helmet issue was fixed.
First part of the Murmillo vs. Thraex bout during the last full gear training. The Thraex helmet needed some adjustments so we stopped the fight and resumed it after fixing the helmet.
Test of the recently discovered possible pairing of Thraex vs. Provocator.
Full gear and speed.
Thraex vs. Murmillo Sparring
These are the last of the videos from our first tests of the training weapons by www.dominusgladius.com - this time harder sparring with more intent.
We did not have the full kit of the Thraex available at this time, so the Murmillones had the task to cope with a more lightfooted opponent than usual.
Testing out the trident by www.dominusgladius.com
While we focus on the Scutarii and Parmularii, and we do not normaly train Retiarius vs. Contra-Retiarius, we did want to test out the trident head Dominus Gladius provided us with. The Retiarius here started out in this Armatura and has about two decades of experience with the trident, while the Scutarii still need to get used to the range and mobility of their adversary.
Even though the trident head was only secured on the pole by friction, it only came of two times. As it is very light, it was highly nimble and very fast to use. The small size of the head, modeled after the one in the Zagreb museum, helps a lot to exploit even the smalest openings.
