Against the most beautiful backdrop in Ireland, Ormond Oliver (653) is photographed here by John Petch with the famed custodian Tommy O'Brien (hidden).
Tommy was a custodian for over forty years during which he took care of some of the best stallions in the studbook such as Killyreagh Kim, Abbeyleix Owen and Village Boy.
The Red Line Ormond Oliver came second in the Open Stallion class in '78 and third in '84 when shown by Paddy Folan.
His outstanding ancestors were Dun Lorenzo the star of the forties and Lorenzo's son Macdara, the multiple champion of the fifties. Oliver's dun coat and white fetlock were the hallmarks of those Red Line stallions.
It transpired that the less heralded Dun Aengus, another son of Dun Lorenzo and grandsire of Abbeyleix Owen was the one to ensure the strength of this line in the following decades.
