I’ll be teaching a seminar at Hold Fast Jiu-Jitsu on one of my most powerful top pressure mechanics.

This is a control I use extensively to kill escapes, to set up submissions and to Smesh my opponents.

I suggest either coming and learning or, if you don’t, making sure none of your training partners or enemies come.

Prevention vs Defense.

Often in BJJ, people are taught how to defend a technique rather than learn how to prevent it in the first place.

Of course, learning to defend is hugely important but my game is about limiting variables.

The more I let him act, the more I have to have answer for.

If I understand from each positioning and movement what his attempted actions will be the more I can shut it down before it starts.

We were covering mount maintenance in class and I was explaining that in order to knee-elbow escape, he has to bring his head to the side of his grounded leg (his frames will also tell me which way he will go).

Rather than wait and try to reflatten my opponent, we worked on first preventing his head movement by reading which way he will go and interrupting him before it starts.

As we say at my school, “Jiu-Jitsu is lazy!”
I want to prevent your options rather than defend them after you’ve begun them.
