If you've ever wanted ultra running to feel like a genuine expedition rather than just another race weekend, this event could be just what you are looking for.
From 11–19 September 2026, the GlobalLimits Peaks of the Balkans takes runners on a 200km multi-stage journey through Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro, crossing mountain passes, remote villages and spectacular Balkan wilderness rarely seen by international runners.
Six days of moving through wild mountains, sleeping in traditional guesthouses, sharing stories with runners from around the world and experiencing a part of Europe that still feels genuinely untouched.
The route features over 12,400m of ascent and descent, with technical trails, rocky ridgelines and long mountain days at altitudes reaching 2,300m. Meeting in the historic Albanian city of Shkodër, the race finishes in front of the iconic church in Theth, deep in the Albanian Alps.
But what makes GlobalLimits events really stand out is the balance between challenge and experience.
You carry only your mandatory day kit while the organisation transports your main luggage between camps. Each evening runners stay in local guesthouses, with traditional Balkan hospitality, local breakfasts and a shared sense of adventure.
GlobalLimits has been organising multi-stage races since 2012, and has built a reputation for combining demanding courses with cultural immersion, strong logistics and a genuinely community-driven feel. Their philosophy is simple:
"We organise, you run."
The Peaks of the Balkans route itself has become one of Europe's great mountain trails, linking three countries through ancient shepherd paths, alpine valleys and dramatic mountain landscapes that many runners still haven't discovered.
Included in the race package:
2 nights of traditional accommodation before and after the race days (twin sharing)
Transportation to and from the start and finish lines
200km over 6 stages
12,400m ascent/descent
Border crossing support between all 3 countries
Accommodation and logistics throughout the race
Medical support
Traditional Balkan breakfast with options to purchase meals
Finisher medal and shirt
A genuinely unique mountain running experience
