Spring weekend 2026 at Sutton Bank - Women Gliding The Yorkshire Gliding Club at Sutton Bank is an old favourite for Women Gliding women to descend on for a weekend of flying, chatting, eating, drinking, laughing and learning, and so we did, in March 2026. Nick’s grandfather, Alf Faddy, had a major role in designing the Spitfire! ✈️

Today is a very special day for our Nick because for years his grandfather’s role in creating the legendary fighter was overlooked. But today’s The Sun — and Paul Beaver’s new book Mitchell: Father of the Spitfire — finally give him the credit he deserves.

It all began in Nick’s grandparents’ house, where Alf famously sketched the first ideas for the Spitfire’s elliptical wing… on the dining-room wallpaper after Sunday lunch in 1934!

Here’s Nick today, proudly holding the fresh newspaper that honours his grandfather’s legacy💪!

Nick still dreams of flying a Spitfire and here’s to hoping that one day will happen 🤞

Today’s flight was the fifth competition day and WHAT a day!
, & set out together and for the majority of the day we were ahead of the game, until the day just wasn’t long enough 🌾

Our very own got on a 4th place😍🥳🥳, and we celebrated with the Italian team (and some French and some Swiss hehe)
