Final on final day
The Danes got off to a great start when they scored in the first inning. Anton got a board with a fielding error, and Freddy singled Anton to 3rd. A botched throw from the Czach catcher allowed Anton to score. We got 2 more runners on in the second, but failed to bring them home. Instead, the Czechs put together a rally, scoring 3 in bottom 3.
In the top of the 3rd, there was a very controversial call. We had loaded the bases with 2 out, when William S came up to bat. He was clearly hit on his back foot with a pitch, limped up to first, and forced in a run. But the umpires, after a little meeting, ruled that the pitch hadn’t hit William, so he was called back and eventually flew out to right field! A very strange (and wrong) decision, costing us a run and halting a potential rally.
The Czechs got a big rally in the 5th, running the score up to 8-1, ending the game and the Championship. Another well-deserved win!!
One thing WBSC Europe Softball could consider: Why not drop the rule about the umpires' nationality? The two best umpires at the tournament should have umpired in the final. A Dane and a Czech - both with lots of experience, and both used to men’s fastpitch from their home countries - had to sit in the stands during the final. The players just want the best umpires - they don't care which nationality they have!!
All together, we had a good week - we reached our goal of getting to the final, and we had a lot of young players gaining valuable experience.
We will be back in ‘27!!!

A very impressive win over Team Netherlands!
Batting first, we scored a run right of the bat, Tobias batted Freddy home. In the 3rd we scored another 3: A one out triple by Lukas, and a long dinger from Anton, and after that Oscar batted Tobias home. We almost copied that in th 4th with another triple by Lukas and an even longer dinger from Anton!
Some extra padding in the 5th and final inning, when William S doubled home Tobias, and pinch hitter Victor sent William home with a nice single.
On the plate, Oscar pitched all 5 innings with 8 strikeouys, 1 walk and only 1 run on a long ball in the 5th.
A well-deserved spot in the final vs our Czech hosts - 14.00 tomorrow.

Game #6 in round robin against G.B. gave a relatively easy 8-1 win in 4½ innings. We jumped ahead by 5 runs in the first, and could cruise home to the victory. The 8 runs were spread out over the lineup. And our pitchers held the Brits to 1 run with 7 K's and no walks.
The last game at 17.00 against the Netherlands will see the winner advance to the final, and the loser settle for the bronze medal game.
As it is, Denmark, Belgium, and Holland could end up in a 3-way tie! We have the upper hand, though: A win will get us in the final - if we lose, the old calculater will have to do some work :-)
